Role

The project engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring the security and reliability of equipment related to terminal operations and Valero's Canadian distribution assets. This is achieved through involvement in various improvement projects and programs. Responsibilities include collaborating on technical standards development and enforcement, coordinating project implementation, and overseeing construction/major maintenance activities alongside designers, consultants, contractors, and suppliers.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare project quotes, design plans, and specifications, as well as engage in equipment procurement negotiations.
  • Control costs to align with budgets and ensure project timelines are met at all sites under supervision.
  • Contribute to capital expenditure assessments and maintenance cost evaluations to support strategic development planning.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies while establishing and enforcing technical standards.
  • Offer technical support to various sectors like Operations, Maintenance, and HSE, and collaborate closely with colleagues in Engineering and other departments.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations during task execution.
  • Develop relationships with government entities, professional associations, suppliers, etc., across different Canadian provinces.
  • Requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
    • 5 to 15 years of relevant experience in an industrial setting.
    • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.
    • Proficient in Health, Safety, and Environment practices.
    • Bilingual in French and English.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently, from projects ranging in size from $100K to $30M.
    • Demonstrated leadership skills, analytical prowess, and adaptability to change.
    • Willingness to undertake occasional short trips to Canadian sites.
