Our client is one of Vancouver's leading and most highly respected civil construction companies. Due to continued growth, they are currently seeking an Experienced Estimator. You will be part of a rapidly growing group with room to grow within the company.

Project values approx. $20m

Projects:
Bridges, Roads and Highways, Excavation and Shoring, Utilities, Marine

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Estimating Coordination: Lead the comprehensive estimating efforts for assigned bids/projects.
  • Scope Evaluation: Review proposal specifications and drawings, attend prebid meetings to determine the scope of work and necessary estimate contents.
  • Project Schedule Review: Assess the schedules of projects being estimated.
  • Team Organization: Assemble the estimating team, select vendors and subcontractors, and evaluate the costeffectiveness of projects to be bid.

Contract Management:
Perform or assist with risk management and contract responsibilities as required.

Production Forecasting:
Conduct daily forecasts of crew costs and production rates, reporting to the Superintendent as needed.

  • Historical Data Integration: Incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, and productivity analysis reports into unit and manhour estimates.
  • Discipline Estimates Preparation: Calculate complete takeoffs for the scope of work to prepare discipline estimates.

Vendor Consultation:
Engage with clients, vendors, and other stakeholders to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.

  • Addendum Monitoring: Track client addenda and inform the estimating team of changes during the estimate period.
  • Bid Preparation: Prepare or assist in preparing bids, selecting vendors and subcontractors.
  • Design Review: Evaluate design options and recommend the best solutions based on cost, engineering quality, and material availability.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with company employees, owners, and subcontractors to achieve consensus on proposed bids.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Acquire knowledge of projectspecific regulations required for construction.
  • Subcontractor Work Review: Review the list of tasks to be performed by subcontractors.
  • Final Estimate Review: Review and finalize project estimates.
  • Project Handoff: Collaborate with other estimators to transition projects to the production team.

  • Contract Management: Manage awarded contracts, including estimating extra work items, change orders, and credits.
  • Scope Change Advising: Advise on significant changes in the scope of work.
  • Cost Monitoring: Compare actual costs to estimated costs.
  • Project Debriefing: Conduct postproject debriefings with estimating, engineering, and production teams to evaluate project outcomes.
  • Documentation Maintenance: Maintain comprehensive files of working documents as backup for estimate figures, including uptodate pricing information from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Additional Assignments: Perform additional tasks as directed by management.

Ideal Candidate Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited institution with 5 years of experience in estimating and cost control, OR
  • 10 years of related experience/training.

Industry Expertise:

  • Required experience in construction, design, finance, and management.

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of HCSS Heavy Bid Estimating Software.
