Sheridan is looking for an outstanding individual to join our faculty to teach Drawing in the Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design.

Both of drawing courses advertised are in the Art and Art History Program, a joint program between Sheridan and the University of Toronto Mississauga.


Sheridan seeks a part-time professor to teach a one-semester section of Drawing 1 FAS143H on Tuesdays from 6-9 PM and on Thursdays from 6-9 PM (six hours each week) over the thirteen-week fall session, September 7, 2023, through to December 5, 2023.


Sheridan seeks a part-time professor to teach a one-semester section of Drawing 2 FAS243H on Tuesdays from 9 AM-noon and on Thursdays from 6-9 PM (six hours each week) over the thirteen-week fall session, September 7, 2023, through to December 5, 2023.


In Drawing 1 and Drawing 2, students explore the use of drawing to investigate contemporary approaches to the production of artwork.

Students work with a variety of traditional and experimental drawing materials and techniques to develop their understanding of and facility with current drawing practices.

Students examine the systems and conventions of drawing through discussions, workshops, critiques, and assignments.

Students are introduced to a variety of critical and thematic concerns of artists working within these fields, discourses surrounding their production, and the larger cultural implications of their work.


Professors also ensure that students are aware of course and program learning outcomes, learning strategies and evaluation techniques; provide individual tutoring and academic counselling; and evaluate student progress/achievement within assigned courses.

What You'll be Doing

Demonstrating a range of drawing techniques;
Assisting students to discuss creative direction and assessing initial sketch ideas;
Presenting brief slide discussion/lectures to contextualize the projects in terms of the histories of drawing and to elaborate a range of contemporary possibilities;
Introducing peer critiques and assisting students to learn how to critically assess one another's work;
Selecting appropriate readings to support curriculum;
Ensuring that program and course curricula are current, relevant and reflective of best practices within the relevant professional/program disciplines;
Creating an effective environment for learning which accommodates students' diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences and individual learning styles;
Designing appropriate strategies and tools for facilitating and assessing student learning;
Developing multi-media materials and alternative delivery strategies and incorporating appropriate educational technologies into the learning process.

About You


You have the skills and knowledge to work with an increasingly diverse student and staff population as well as a proven commitment to anti-oppression, equity, and inclusion.

You are a student-centered individual with a passion for facilitating student success and enhancing the student experience.

Master of Fine Arts degree (preferred).

Experience in teaching at the post-secondary level preferred.

Ability to teach traditional and contemporary drawing within a fine-art context at the first
- and second-year levels.

An informed view of contemporary drawing practices, issues and criticism, as well as pluralistic approach to contemporary art making.

Knowledge of a wide range of drawing media.

Strong network of contacts with other professionals, galleries and employers.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Committed to excellence in teaching and learning and to working within a team environment.

Knowledge of online learning management software. Sheridan professors use Slate (D2L Brightspace) to support in-class course learning.
