Our strategy, facilities, partnerships and resources are intentionally student-centred to foster dialogue, expression and open connections in support of the next generation of creative and cultural leaders.- The Collaborative Technologies Production Lead is responsible for coordinating and managing all aspects of technical set-up and support for various events from lecture series to the full execution of intricate productions.

The Collaborative Technologies Production Lead also oversees multimedia equipment and systems within theatres, learning spaces, classrooms, and conference rooms, ensuring spaces are operational and maintained for supporting curriculum and events.

In addition, the Collaborative Technologies Production Lead provides daily support to Students, Staff, and Faculty operating and troubleshooting equipment problems on multimedia presentation, recording/streaming, and videoconferencing equipment.

The Collaborative Technologies Production Lead hires, supervises, evaluates, and directs casual event technicians and student workers.

Some Typical Duties:

  • Coordinates technical support and setup required for various events from lecture series to full execution of intricate productions. Works collaboratively with Facilities, University Events and the Teaching & Learning Centre to successfully execute various events, lectures and conferences. Receives support requests, meets with University Staff, Faculty and external clients to determine all aspects of event production. Consults with Manager, Collaborative Technologies + Media Resources on complex issues.
  • Hires, supervises, evaluates, and directs casual event technicians and student workers. May hire and coordinate event contractors as required. Matters of an evaluative, disciplinary, contract administration and/or interpretation basis are referred to the Manager, Collaborative Technologies + Media Resources.
  • Ensures all event technical staff are well trained and all event activities are handled in a safe and respectful manner. Ensures a safe working and learning environment by maintaining a current knowledge of and adhering to WHMIS and OH+S regulations and procedures.
  • Oversees multimedia equipment and systems within theatres (i.e. Reliance Theatre), learning spaces, classrooms, and conference rooms, ensuring equipment and systems are fully operational for supporting curriculum and events. Troubleshoots and performs repairs, or consults with Manager, Collaborative Technologies + Media Resources on repair suitability and options when repairs are extensive. Works with Facilities Services on issues as needed.
  • Participates in departmental meetings to discuss technical operations and support. Recommends capital and operations purchases.
  • Researches and drafts policies, procedures and training resources for event technical support and resource usage.
  • May assist the Senior Equipment Technician in a variety of projects, including repair schedules, installations, upgrades, resourcing, testing, and implementation of equipment and systems to support University curriculum and special projects.
  • Supports the University's Graduation Exhibition Show with the setup, operation, and dismantling of multimedia equipment. Acts as a technical resource to students, staff, and faculty regarding setup, troubleshooting, and operations.
  • Stays current in the development and changes in collaborative technologies.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Two-Year Diploma in a media related field of audio, film/video, theatre technician, or audiovisual installation, plus one year specialized and/or ongoing relevant training.
  • Minimum three years related experience working with a wide variety of multimedia and presentation equipment, preferably in a postsecondary environment.
  • Minimum three years working knowledge of touch screen and IP based AV control systems, conferencing, streaming, recording, lighting and sound systems.
  • Minimum two years working knowledge of Mac and Windows operating systems.
  • Minimum two years working knowledge of either Bi Amp, Crestron, Extron or ETC.
