What you will do:

This is a hybrid role with an expectation of minimum 2 days' work on-site per week. On-site work is conducted in a standard office environment that is inclusively designed and fully accessible.


Reporting to the Manager, Advising Services, the Transition to Work Program Specialist is responsible for developing initiatives, events and trainings aimed at supporting students with disabilities and their career journey (career readiness, transition skills, employment outcomes, etc.).

This includes chairing the Transition to Work Committee, expanding the current Transition to Work program to include a suite of events, building partnerships with on campus departments, community agencies and employers and developing and/or curating resources, tools and trainings to equip campus partners with the necessary skills to better

support students with disabilities in their employment transition.

The Transition to Work program has received special funding from CIBC to facilitate the growth of this program and the incumbent will be responsible for delivering on the outcomes of the agreement with CIBC.


Key Duties

Program & Partnership Development

  • Facilitate growth for the TTW program from one (1) major annual event to a suite of events, staff trainings and resources that offer wrap around support to students with disabilities as they prepare to launch their careers.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with on campus partners such as Accessible Learning Services and Community Employment Services as well as with community agencies and employers who work and support students with disabilities.
  • Chair the Transition to Work Event committee, a committee composed of students/learners, Career & Student Success Advisors (CSSA), Accessible Learning Services (ALS) Consultants, the Manager, Advising Services and Associate Director, Accessible Learning Services.
  • In tandem with the Transition to Work Committee, responsible for creation, delivery, and dayof support of all Transition to Work Program Events
- a suite of events that focus on skill building for students, recent graduates and alumni with disabilities.

  • Maintains data and confidential records for all students and alumni who register to attend Transition to Work Program events.
  • Responsible for the planning, tracking, spending and overall maintenance of an annual operating budget of over $30,000.00.
  • Responsible for TTW committee scheduling, agenda creation, minute/note taking processes, and support for followup actions and additional administrative tasks.

Resource Development & Training

  • Research, and continue to be informed on, leading best practice/pedagogy with respect to aspects such as: job search strategies, disclosure & accommodation, career resources, career strategy, legislation such as AODA/Human Rights Code, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), etc.
  • Support the update of current and curation of new career resources and toolkits for students with disabilities.
  • Prepare and deliver training and support to Career and Student Success Advisors and Accessibility Consultants on the use of workplace accommodation toolkits and other relevant resources.
