What can I expect to do in this role?: As a Warehouse Foreperson, you will:

  • Provide customer service to internal and external clients
  • Provide operational shift supervision to assigned warehouse or logístical staff
  • Provide warehouse stock and equipment control

How do I qualify?:

Mandatory:

  • You have the ability to obtain a valid certificate of IATA (International Air Transport Association dangerous goods regulations)
  • You have the ability to obtain a valid certificate for TDG (Transportation of Dangerous Goods) and WHIMIS (workplace hazardous material information system)
  • You have the ability to obtain a Lift Truck Certification (if equipment is available at work location)
  • You have the ability to obtain Standard First Aid certification

Technical Expertise:

  • You have knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Material Information System), TDG (Transportation Dangerous Goods Act), and IATA (International Air Transport Association Act)
  • You have knowledge of warehouse procedures, inventory management practices, stock control and purchasing procedures and guidelines
  • You have knowledge of forklift operations

Interpersonal and Communication Skills:

  • You have customer service skills to provide service to internal and external clients
  • You have oral and written communication skills to train warehouse staff to deal with internal and external clients
  • You can demonstrate tact and diplomacy to deal with suppliers and local merchants
  • You can provide regular progress updates to supervisory staff to ensure targets are met

Analytical and Planning Skills:

  • You have analytical skills to provide recommendations and increase operational effectiveness
  • You have planning skills to meet deadlines and ensure equipment and staffing levels are sufficient to meet operational needs

Leadership and Organizational Skills:

  • You have leadership skills to provide direction and training to staff
  • You can work independently to establish priorities in a rapidly changing environment
  • You can determine alternatives for logístical support based on resources available, costing and impacts

Computer Skills:

  • You have knowledge of and experience using computer software such as word processing, spreadsheets, electronic mail and inventory management information systems to prepare correspondence, input and retrieve data, and update inventory
  • You have data entry and typing skills to enter and manipulate data and prepare reports
