The Chemist position is responsible for leading activities related to new product development and the improvement of existing product lines within the Industrial Wood Group of the Performance Coatings Group.

The incumbent will have opportunities to demonstrate leadership while providing support to internal customers such as management, manufacturing, marketing, quality, commercialization and will also support external customers.


CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to the assessment, development, reformulation, quality, maintenance, and enhancement of products through planning, executing, and analysis of experiments with clear and accurate results.
  • Test products to industry specifications and write professional reports to the field.
  • Designs and executes experiments, draw conclusions, and make recommendations.
  • Comply with test methods according to set standards.
  • Document all formulation processes.
  • Complete proper forms and documents when necessary.
  • Accountable for the solution to technical problems for product or process
  • Learn and retain significant knowledge and use of chemicals, raw materials, substrates, and instruments.
  • Ability to complete individual work on simple projects with mínimal direction.
  • Accountable for providing timely and accurate solutions to company problems of simple to moderate complexity and to develop methods of mínimal complexity, as an individual contributor.
  • This position will develop towards "expert/trainer" status in at least one broad area or a related specialized area.
  • Adhere to company safety guidelines and quality standards at all times
  • Work with others individuals in the laboratory to understand formulation and processes. Fill out scale up documents pertaining to own and team members' new OR modified formulations.
  • Comply with all safety and security regulations and maintain a clean work area.
  • Communicate with internal as well as external customers.
  • Manage work in accordance with timeline goals.
  • Verbally communicates routine information to supervisor and others in platform.
  • Is receptive and attentive to instructions.
  • Recognizes routine requirements and selects proper, simple procedures for obtaining desired results to solve problems.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
  • 1 years of coatings formulation experience in an industrial setting.
  • Must be able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to determine the difference between colors so you can correctly tint paint to the colors desired by customers.
  • Computer knowledge and data analysis

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3 years of coatings formulation experience in an industrial setting.
  • Degree in Polymers and Coatings
  • Wood coating experience
