JOB SUMMARY

Our Kids Count empowers individuals to build stronger families and inclusive communities by enhancing people's lives through personal growth and development.

As part of the OKC team, the Big Brother Big Sister (
BBBS) Facilitator will:

  • Provide casework management in accordance with the National Standards set out by
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada.

  • Be responsible for matching volunteer mentors with children and youth, and to monitor those matches to ensure the healthy development of the relationships.
  • Provide training for volunteers, students, interns on inschool group mentoring programs and liaison with the school teams as needed.


The
BBBS Facilitator will work within the guidelines, policies and mission of the Agency and will be accountable and responsible for specific projects as assigned.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- manage intake of children and volunteers including orientation, interviewing, screening etc.
- conduct reference checks of potential volunteers.
- inform volunteers of their acceptance or rejection
- contact schools or other involved social service agencies as appropriate for assessment input.
- conduct the Child Safety training program with volunteers, children and parents.
- maintain case notes on all cases in accordance with the National Standards
- facilitate match closure process for volunteer, child and parent, including exit interview for volunteer.
- provide regular reports to
BBBS Coordinator and Manager, or special reports as requested.
- maintain strict confidentiality as outlined in agency Privacy and Confidentiality Policy
- ensure all clients and volunteers are informed of any pertinent agency information such as group programs, change of policy, change of address etc.
- perform administrative functions as required to manage caseload.
- make referrals to other agencies as warranted.

- remain aware of federal and provincial privacy legislation and the agency's privacy policies and practices

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
In accordance with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada's National Child Safety Standards, all


BBBS Facilitator must:
- have a two-year post-secondary diploma in a related field (eg. education, social or human services, child and youth work, family studies etc.)."

  • 2 years' experience working with children and youth
  • Supervisory experience is an asset.
  • Experience with group facilitation and training is preferred

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Experience with families on a limited income and sensitivity to their needs
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing, in a crosscultural environment
  • Interpersonal and relationshipbuilding skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Selfstarter with proven organization skills

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Willingness to work flexible hours.
  • Car and valid driver's license with $2,000,000 liability coverage and clean drivers abstract.
