Position Overview
The Health Equity Research Administrator reports to the Program Lead.

The RA will interact significantly with both research participants, community agencies and the Lead Investigator(s) of the project(s) to which he/she is assigned.

The Research Associate will be responsible for supporting specific research projects and general Health Equity activities.


The Associate will provide support, manage projects, and conduct research activities for research, policy and innovation projects within the Health Equity program.

It is anticipated that the Associate will be involved in 2-4 projects at any given time. The Associate may supervise junior project staff and trainees on the research projects.

At least 50% of the project time will be dedicated at inception of the position to the CIHR funded Indigenous Harm Reduction Housing which is in its third and final year and includes multiple stakeholders including agencies and Elders.

Allocation of the remaining project time will be determined on an ongoing basis with the Health Equity Lead.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Ensuring all stakeholders are kept informed of relevant project progression
  • Supervising junior project staff and trainees on the research projects
  • Working closely with Lead Investigators in the execution of research protocols and programs
  • Determining priorities with the Health Equity Program Lead
  • Participating in complex team and related issues
  • Analyzing qualitative interviews and observational data over time; interpreting qualitative and quantitative data; writing research papers suitable for publication; preparing policy briefs, posters and presentations

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelors level training required, Masters preferred, with a preference for training within a policy, Indigenous health or social work related field
  • 34 years progressive experience in conducting communitybased and Indigenous health research
  • Welldeveloped knowledge and expertise related to Calgary's homeless serving system of care and how the homeless and other vulnerable populations interact and engage with health care providers is an asset
  • Experience conducting research with persons experiencing vulnerabilities with training in trauma informed care research practices
  • Expertise in coordinating and conducting quantitative and qualitative research
  • Enrollment of participants, development of databases, statistical analysis, and report generation
  • A high level of sophisticated research experience & skills including familiarity with mixed methods and the integration and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data
  • Experience in the Health Equity program is an asset
  • Experience writing up results in interdisciplinary journal article form
  • Experience conceptualizing, developing and writing policy briefs
  • Leadership, communication, organizational, interpersonal, and problemsolving skills
  • A resourceful, innovative, creative, strategic, decision maker and problem solver
  • Must exercise initiative, good judgment and concern for detail and accuracy
  • Ability to receive direction, collaborate with others in setting goals, and work effectively in teams to achieve agreedupon goals
  • Ability to work independently and promote good teamwork
  • Ability to plan, problemsolve, and organize multiple tasks and priorities
  • Ability to demonstrate tact and courtesy dealing with persons with lived experience, community partners, policy makers, staff, and health care professionals
  • Excellent people skills
