Unit Summary

The Musculoskeletal Oncology Rehabilitation unit cares for inpatients with orthopedic, neuro-oncology conditions or complex medical problems. These patients, many of who are geriatric, require a period of rehabilitation prior to discharge from hospital. Patients typically participate in the rehab program between 15 and 21 days, discharged is based on goal attainment.

Position Summary

As a vital member of the interdisciplinary team, the Physiotherapist (PT) coordinates, assesses and evaluates patient care and provides physiotherapy care to meet the needs of patients. The PT will work closely with a Physiotherapy Assistant. The Physiotherapist collaborates with interdisciplinary team members and community agencies in the provision of care and discharge planning for patients and their families The Physiotherapist practices in accordance with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario Standards of Practice and Guidelines and according to Hamilton Health Sciences Policies and Procedures. The Physiotherapist utilizes a patient and family centered care approach and incorporates best available evidence into practice. It is an expectation that the Physiotherapist participates and provides clinical education to physiotherapy students and other learners in the clinical setting as appropriate. In addition to providing clinical care, the Physiotherapist actively participates in continuing professional development opportunities, professional practice and program committees & initiatives that support patient care and clinical practice.

Schedule Work Hours

Weekdays, Weekends, Days. This is a temporary role until September 2025.

Qualifications Graduate of an approved university graduate level physiotherapy program (BScPT, MScPT) or equivalent.
2. Current registration in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
3. Well developed physiotherapy assessment & treatment skills relevant to clinical setting
4. Demonstrated discharge planning skills and knowledge of community resources and supports.
5. Demonstrated ability to work in a changing environment with high productivity, organizational and flexibility demands with solid clinical reasoning and caseload management skills.
6. ADP authorizer status preferred
7. Current BCLS certification
8. Recent clinical experience (within 2 years) with a rehabilitation geriatric, surgical or orthopedic patient population
9. Demonstrated excellent communication (written and verbal), teamwork, problem-solving, time management, organization and interpersonal skills
10. Demonstrated initiative and ability to work well independently while collaborating within an interdisciplinary team
11. Demonstrated commitment to professional development
