One of the primary interventions and supports throughout all aspects of GLP placement is a deliberate undertaking and emphasis on developing safe, congruent, and trusting relationships between GLP residents and staff. The TCI and CARE models both emphasis the developmental relationship as one of the trauma informed cornerstones of effectively working with children and youth.**
Position Responsibilities

  • Maintain a supportive comfortable atmosphere, encourage children and youth in their individuality, while complying with the policies and procedures.
  • Attend and participate in shift exchange/ security and safety checks
  • Provide individualized care and support for children and youth ages 22
  • Transport and provide support for children and youth to attend their day programs, appointments, and recreational activities
  • Supervise children and youth in daily routines, in accordance with assigned shift
  • Utilize Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) strategies and CARE model interventions to diffuse potential behavior escalations
  • As required, work and provide staffing support at any GLP site.
  • Evaluate resident's behavior through daily contact and monthly goal progress notes
  • Ensure log books, reports and documentation is completed timely
  • Attend staff meetings and any other meetings or training programs as directed by Management.
  • Follow all Agency's policies, and procedures, code of conduct, shift expectations, and job descriptions
  • Communicate with Management any concerns impacting a child or youth's safety and wellbeing.
  • Administer medications to residents as required.
  • Maintain a healthy environment by performing a variety of cleaning and housekeeping duties as required
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies

Qualifications

  • Post Secondary Degree in a relevant field of study and/or relevant work experience
  • Minimum 1year direct experience working in a group home with children or youth
  • Formal training in TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) and Suicide Intervention
  • Knowledge of standard policies and practices related to group care and the ability to effectively implement daily operations as per shift requirements.
  • Police Check with the Vulnerable Sector and Child and Youth Intervention Check completed within the past six months
  • Valid First Aid certificate or enrolled in a future course
  • Class 5 Alberta Driver License ( minimum 3 years driving experience)
