We're looking for a mission-driven Community Service Worker who is passionate about creating more accessible, inclusive, and equitable communities across Canada where people with low vision have unlimited opportunities and can experience life free from barriers and discrimination.

Your Impact at CNIB
  • Ability to live on campus as part of the SCORE Scholar program between July 15th and July 29th, 2022 (Toronto Location and CNIB Lake Joe, Mactier, ON)
  • Office availability (in-person) on all other dates OR virtual as required by circumstance.
  • Research and arrange guest speakers and activities to support mental health best practices, increased socialization, and effective communication.
  • Supervise program participants during social activities and group discussions and accompany them on day trips.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of all Learning Academy Programming (SCORE Scholars, Primary Explorers, Junior Explorers & Young Achievers) and additional children and youth in-person day programming as requested.
  • Coordinate applications, conduct interviews of prospective participants.
  • Assist with administrative tasks including parent/participant correspondence, achievement certificate preparation, attendance records, achievement point tracking toward incentives, and report cards.
  • Assist in the recruitment of volunteers for summer camps and coordinate volunteer orientation sessions as well as required materials.
  • Manage Zoom meetings including opening sessions, coordination of participants and monitoring of break out rooms as required.
  • Demonstrate assistive technology, including Voiceover and various apps for iPhone and iPad (instruction is provided).

Who you are:

Experience and Qualifications

  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Good social media and computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Zoom.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills.
  • Demonstrates mature and sensitive nature when dealing with the needs of persons experiencing sight loss.
  • Knowledge of not-for-profit community resources is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of technical aids and devices for people with sight loss is an asset.
  • Must be mature and responsible.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must be able to travel independently within the region via public transit or car (taxi, Uber etc.)
  • Experience working with the public.
  • University or community college student preferred.
  • Related Fields of Study include social services, health studies, child and youth studies, disability studies, administration, communications, technology, customer service.
  • Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset.
  • Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and/or accessible environments is considered an asset.
