The Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver (EFry) is a charitable organization that supports women, girls, and children at risk, involved in or affected by the justice system.

Our programs work to break the cycle of poverty, addiction, mental illness, homelessness, and crime.

We are recruiting for a Part Time, Concurrent Disorders Clinician for our Firth Program. Located in Abbotsford, the Firth Program serves women with severe and high-risk substance use dependency as a primary concern and who may have co-occurring moderate mental health care needs. The average length of stay will be 3-months, or longer when clinically indicated. The program is strengths-based, trauma-informed, culturally safe, and concurrent disorder capable care delivered through evidence
- based therapeutic interventions. The goal of the program is to provide evidence-based psychosocial treatment, education, and support to reduce problematic substance use, improve overall health and social wellbeing, and ultimately reduce the risk of death due to overdoses and infections. The program will feature both stabilization and therapeutic/treatment interventions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct intake and comprehensive psychosocial assessment of adults experiencing substance use disorders and who may have moderate mental health concerns.
  • Provide direct substance use and concurrent disorders treatment and support services for clients regarding substance use issues by methods such as carrying out evidence based individual, group and family therapies according to a variety of theoretical models; establishing and maintaining therapeutic relationships based on respect; developing and providing psychosocial group programs targeting specific areas of psychological and social functioning including social skills, anger management, coping skills, assertiveness training, and selfesteem identifying goals and expectations, reviewing client and family learning needs, examining motivations for change; and developing relapse prevention strategies and insight oriented group counselling. Document and chart patient involvement in concurrent disorders programs.
  • Develop relapse prevention and wellness plans for clients, providing counselling for clients during transition to home communities. Participate in community education, prevention, and concurrent disorders awareness activities.
  • Provide support and training to the team, as needed.
  • Participates in ICM and liaise with communitybased service providers to ensure holistic care and to facilitate transitions to the program and back to the home community.
  • Maintain client records and program documentation, in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Monitor the daytoday operations of residence to ensure quality control in adherence to licensing regulation.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Masters Degree in an Allied Health Discipline from a recognized program.
  • Three (3) years recent related experience in an addictions and mental health setting, or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience.
  • Registration with a regulatory or professional body.
  • Advanced knowledge of and a demonstrated ability in comprehensive psychosocial assessments and treatment services including therapeutic counselling and individual, group and family therapies.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of developmental theories, family dynamics, treatment and behavior management modalities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of substance use disorders, best practices and evidence based practices.
  • Seasoned knowledge and experience in working with people with concurrent disorders.
  • Experience working with health authorities and government ministries and agencies (MSDPR, CSC).
  • Demonstrated client assessment and case management skills.
  • Knowledge of culturally safe care, and genderinformed service delivery.
  • Experience working in a licensed facility is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.

ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Standard First Aid with CPR-C.
  • Evidence of COVID19 vaccination status.
  • Evidence of a Tuberculosis Test and compliance with the TB Control Program.
  • Doctor's Note of fitness required.
  • Enhanced Security Screening & satisfactory Criminal Record Review (Vulnerable Sector Search).
  • Valid driver's license (Class 5) with satisfactory driving record.
