Support Staff Full-time New Position

Responsibilities:

Course Development

  • Collaborates with project teams to develop quality online courses
  • Develops and maintains webbased objects to support the College's online course offerings
  • Develops instructional content into Conestoga's chosen Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Communicates regularly with members of the project team, providing development updates, coordinating meetings, etc.
  • Assists eLearning Developers on larger course development projects, developer templates, standards, and ad hoc development requests
  • Creates practice exercises, knowledge checks, and other instructional elements using the LMS tools
  • Manipulates, sources, and maintains course graphics as needed

Course Maintenance and Revisions

  • Works with instructional designers, curriculum developers, Chairs, and others at the college to determine revision requirements
  • Completes OntarioLearn course revisions requests and loads courses to the OntarioLearn LMS
  • Modifies content for use on other devices (mobile phones/tablets)
  • Tests and troubleshoots courses for technical correctness, usability, custom interactives and multimedia, and other technical issues
  • Develops and tests courses using accessibility software to ensure courses are AODA compliant
  • Converts approved designs to responsive, accessible HTML5 web pages for the website

Technical and OLC Support

  • Responds to inquiries and provides eConestoga technical support
  • Performs LMS administrative tasks (e.g., managing accounts, courses, and system settings)
  • Provides guidance and expertise to students and faculty as it relates to effective use of the LMS
  • Keeps up to date with regularly scheduled platform changes
  • Creates and updates technical documentation

Quality Assurance (QA)

  • Maintains and revises an ongoing QA process that continually improves as online learning evolves at the College
  • Guides OLC and project teams on copyright and AODA requirements and practices specific to online courses
  • Works with OLC to train and inform Conestoga employees on requirements and quality standards
  • Conducts QA analysis and testing, identifies and documents defects, and fixes issues according to set timelines
  • Ensures online courses and programs meet college standards before released
  • Advises project teams when QA standards are not met, making recommendations as needed

Qualifications:

  • Threeyear Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Computer Programming, Applications Development, Mobile Solutions Development, Business, or Arts is required
  • Practical web development experience; preferably for postsecondary education
  • Experience incorporating technology and media to improve the learners' experience and supporting users with technical support
  • Knowledge of learning management systems, preferably Brightspace by D2L
  • Understanding of responsive designs and how they function across desktops, tablets, and mobile phones
  • Strong technical skills including HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, etc.
  • Superior attention to detail
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills; Ability to interact successfully with project stakeholders, and communicate expectations and suggestions effectively
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and tasks, meet deadlines, and use good judgment and initiative in problem resolution
  • Demonstrated superior work ethic, initiative, and ability to work independently with occasional direction
