Custodian Handyperson

Purpose of Job:

The Custodian/Handyperson role is comprised of 90% custodian duties and 10% maintenance duties. The duties include but are not limited to minor repairs, groundskeeping, and maintaining common areas and washrooms.

Responsibilities:

Clean offices, auditoriums, classrooms, washrooms, kitchenettes, dining areas, halls, entrances/exits, reception areas, and more; Ensure proper sanitation & disinfection procedures are followed; Replenish supplies as needed; Ensure garbage disposal in proper bins; Clean all dry & wet spills throughout the facility as required; Maintain & secure storage areas, cleaning equipment & materials in an orderly manner; Report equipment repairs and stock shortages; Perform and/or report minor maintenance repairs; Report damage & acts of vandalism; Lawn Mowing, trimming, and grounds cleaning; Other duties as assigned.

Skills Required:

Knowledge of standard cleaning procedures, chemicals, products, and equipment; Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System; Good understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act; Ability to read & understand labels & instructions; Excellent customer service and listening skills; Must be able to use job-related tools and equipment with ease; Good written and verbal communication skills; Ability to effectively analyze, plan, organize, prioritize, and meet deadlines; Previous related experience considered an asset; Trades-related ticket/education considered an asset.

Education & Experience:

Must have reliable transportation to worksite; Acceptable security and criminal record check.
