Position Overview

The City of Kamloops presents an exciting opportunity to be part of our Management team as a FireSmart Liaison. This role involves promoting and implementing the FireSmart program within the community through a holistic approach that focuses on the social, cultural, and healthy living needs of our citizens. Working closely with residents, local governments, and various stakeholders, you will enhance community resilience through education, planning, and mitigation strategies. The ideal candidate will have a background in fire management, community engagement, and strong communication and organizational skills.

This is an Exempt Management position with a salary of $83,547.75 per year. Benefits include a comprehensive health, vision, and dental package, generous vacation, and an Earned Days Off program. The successful candidate must have the following qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years of post-secondary education in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Emergency Management, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in wildfire mitigation, planning, response, or recovery.
  • Minimum one year of experience in program delivery or management.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Community Wildfire Protection Plans, Community Wildfire Resiliency Plans, and FireSmart principles.
  • Experience in working with maps and related materials used by EMCR, BCWS, etc.
  • Understanding of local government bylaws and community charter.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's license or equivalent.
  • Current First Aid Level 1 certification.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to gain Local FireSmart Representative Certification.
  • Ability to exercise courtesy, tact, diplomacy, and cultural sensitivity.

Hours & Days of Work:
Monday – Friday
Summer: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Winter: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Hours per Week: 37.5
