Your role
Radio-Canada News and Current Affairs is looking for a National Lineup Editor to plan, prepare and supervise news content for 5 week-end shows of Le Téléjournal avec Claudine Bourbonnais.
As National Lineup Editor based in Montreal, you will choose the items that appear on Le téléjournal, prepare the lineup, assign reporters and pitch story ideas.
You will supervise the presentation of news content, ensuring that it adheres to the Téléjournal objectives, editorial policies as well as CBC/Radio-Canada's Journalistic Standards and Practices.
You will perform the following tasks:
- Keep up with regional, national and international stories through various sources.
- Research, review and select stories for reporters and items for newscasts. Identify sources and check facts.
- Assign reporters to the field.
- Prepare live hits from reporters in the field and/or in the studio.
- Determine story focus. Write copy, headlines and intros.
- Attend production meetings for upcoming and special-event coverage. Pitch story ideas and discuss story angles with your colleagues.
- Line up newscasts. While the newscast is on air, decide whether the lineup should be changed to reflect breaking news.
- Select video clips. Adapt the content of these clips or reports for various newscast formats.
- Vet and correct the work of reporter/editors before items go to air.
- After a broadcast, provide feedback to reporters, program colleagues and management.
- Perform the duties of reporter as needed.
- Carry out all other related tasks as needed.
Job requirements:
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- Seven (7) years' journalism experience or equivalent
Skills:
- Extensive general knowledge coupled with superior analytical and synthesis skills
- Confident, positive leadership
- Superior communication and team work skills
- Excellent editorial judgment to select relevant items for broadcast
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Proven ability to handle urgent requests and breaking news
- Ability to work irregular shifts
- Indepth knowledge of national and international affairs
- Superior Frenchlanguage skills
- English is an asset
- Strong television writing and storytelling skills (at least three (3) years' experience)
- Thorough knowledge of newsroom logistics
- Knowledge of production techniques
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of CBC/Radio-Canada's Journalistic Standards and Practices
