The West Vancouver Permits and Inspections Department is currently seeking Temporary Full-Time Plans Examiner III to join our highly qualified team. Reporting to the Supervisor/Senior Plans Examiner, this position is responsible for examining plans, drawings and specifications accompanying more complex permit applications for all building types to ensure compliance with the applicable codes and regulations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

· Providing an effective plan checking service to ensure that the proposed construction of new buildings, and alterations to existing buildings, is generally in compliance with the British Columbia Building Code and local bylaws;

· Reviewing plans for primarily complex building permit applications;

· Coordinating the work of the plan review function with other departmental activities;

· Inspecting complex buildings when required;

· Providing information, advice, and assistance to a variety of internal and external contacts;

· Representing the Municipality in presenting information to the Prosecutor for legal actions against violations of the Building Bylaw; and

· Performing other related duties as required.

The successful candidate has: thorough knowledge of the BC Building Code; ability to read and interpret the BC Building Code, bylaws, regulations, specifications, departmental policies, construction drawings, legal surveys, and related materials, and to recognize technical requirements and recommend corrections and changes; familiarity with the permitting/development processes for the District of West Vancouver; ability to prepare reports and correspondence and maintain records related to the work; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and internal/external contacts with an emphasis on customer service; demonstrated ability to provide orientation, direction, and guidance to staff engaged in plans examination work; holds a valid BC Driver's Licence; preferred: registration with the Building Officials Association of British Columbia as a Qualified Level 3 Building Official.

The preferred candidate will possess a Diploma in Building Technology from a recognized Institute of Technology, plus considerable related experience in the building/civil engineering industry or municipal field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

The successful candidate will be required to supply a police information check and a copy of their credentials.
