Position is for the Acute Rehabilitation Unit in Sunny Hill Health Centre. Note there is some flexibility around schedule.

What you'll do

  • In response to biochemical and other nutrition related data and in consultation with the treatment team monitor and adjust nutrition care plans. Consult with physicians and other health care professionals regarding patient response to nutrition care plans. Communicate plans to other health care providers, family and/or caregivers in hospital or community.
  • Provide comprehensive nutrition counseling for patients and caregivers including training in the use of specialized formulas and food preparation. Develop written education materials and resources as necessary, in collaboration with relevant teams and departments.
  • Complete and maintain appropriate, related records for activities performed including for example documentation of the nutritional care plan on patients charts, workload statistics, formula requisitions, menus and manual and electronic patient care databases.
  • Assist the Professional Practice Leader and Senior Operations Director in evaluating the Program operation and establishing goals and objectives from a clinical nutrition perspective by helping to review caseload, treatment trends, statistics and effective utilization of resources. Ensure that activities meet priorities set by the Program and that work plans reflect the overall strategic direction set by the Program.

What you bring

  • Graduation from an academic program in dietetics approved by the College of Dietitians of British Columbia plus completion of an accredited Dietitians of Canada Dietetic Internship or an equivalent.
  • Full registration in the College of Dietitians of British Columbia and eligible for membership in Dietitians of Canada.
  • One (1) year's recent experience in areas related to child development and rehabilitation, or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training.
You will have the ability to

  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of nutritional management of patients with developmental disabilities including training in dysphagia care and enteral support.
  • Plan and implement nutrition care plans for patients with complex feeding problems.
  • Work collaboratively and effectively within an interdisciplinary environment.
  • Communicate with, and to deal effectively with coworkers, physicians, other health care professionals, patients and their families, and external agencies.
  • Teach and provide effective consultation.
  • Demonstrate awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
  • Commit to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and antiracism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
