Position Summary

  • The Quality Experience Leader (QEL) plans the provision of evidence based support for knowledge transfer for staff in all disciplines, including through education and learning opportunities, mentoring and coaching, and working alongside staff for just in time learning.
  • This role provides leadership to the surgical portfolio, in partnership with the Program Managers and resource nurses. The QEL focuses on unit based goals and objectives, assisting the team to improve annual metrics and quality improvement initiatives.
  • KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Staff Education, Coaching and Mentoring
  • Identify clearly defined standards, expectations and practice guidelines to assess the learning needs of staff
  • Organize teaching opportunities (mentoring, coaching, educational opportunities, self learning packages, team discussions, case reviews, etc.)
  • Ensure the incorporation of adult learning principles in the planning, design, delivery, and evaluation of educational programs using multiple methodologies
  • Provide leadership in facilitating practice changes in collaboration with members of the healthcare team
  • Facilitate learning transfer to the practice setting
  • Liaise with community agencies and/or stakeholders regarding practices
  • Use skills in LEAN management to support staff in initiatives and projects
Quality Improvement- Work in partnership with the Program Managers to create a vision for the program/service goals, aligned with the Mission, Vision, and Values of OSMH

  • With the Program Managers, create a yearly plan of action, including strategies to meet scorecard indicators and other identified outcome measures including the staff engagement survey results, accreditation plans and the annual quality improvement plan
  • Initiate and facilitate PDSA or rapid improvement cycles within the portfolio.
  • Focus on execution and evaluation of projects and initiatives, ensuring communication or successes and areas for further improvement are highlights to staff.
Staff Development- Designing performance management expectations and practice guidelines, including onboarding processes

  • Provides feedback of performance against standards
  • Act as a resource for all staff on hospital practices and standards
  • Role model positive attitudes and good work
  • Manage and direct staff participation in initiatives that promote the profession
  • Create an environment that encourages professional development while incorporating novice to expert approach
  • Develop processes for personal and professional advancement of staff, including, but not limited to, one month

- six month and annual reviews

  • Manage and oversee the evaluation and progression of all staff
  • Ensuring the development of employee professional goals in alignment with the performance appraisal process
  • Review Incident Reports (RL6) and assist in any staff development or learning requirements
  • Support and participate in the investigation and performance improvement measures
  • Investigating practice concerns of hospital staff (including, but not limited to: narcotic diversion, patient abuse)
  • Contributing to staff performance reviews as required
Corporate Initiatives- Be an active leader in corporate initiatives directly related to the program including accreditation, QIP and the OSMH strategic plan

  • Promote and integrate evidencebased clinical research into practice
  • Provide consultative support to the development of policy and procedures to the QuEST portfolio

Qualifications:

  • Current Certificate of Registration or applicable professional license required
  • Bachelor's degree in a Regulated Health Care profession, Health Administration or related field is required
  • Graduate degree in Nursing, Education or another related field preferred
  • Critical Care Certificate Preferred
  • Acute medicine
