The Opportunity

Aecon Industrial is also known for the pioneering of prefabricated piping and fabrication services to better manage site labour and the integration of specialized coating systems into the fabrication process.


Aecon Industrial currently has a full-time permanent position open for a Piping Estimator, located in our Ellwood Office in Edmonton, AB.

Reporting to the Senior Estimator, the Estimator will be responsible for the generation of accurate and timely cost estimates for assigned projects in our fabrication shop.


What you'll do here:

  • Analyzes documents, specifications, proposals, addendums in preparation for pricing.
  • Performs quantity takeoff from construction drawings.
  • Obtains pricing from suppliers and incorporate into estimate.
  • Formulates all costs for tender submission labour, equipment, material, rentals and subcontracts.
  • Accountable for accuracy and completeness of tender submissions
  • Assists with Prequalification submissions, RFQ's and RFI's as required.
  • Obtains input from Operations staff as appropriate.
  • Reviewing project site prior to price preparation
  • Performs Post Bid / Post Project Analysis completion and that associated learning and communication takes place.
  • Collects data and reports on established business Key Performance Indicators
  • Performs any estimate related oral and/or written communications with clients.
  • Oversees the distribution of appropriate documentation appropriately upon award of project.
  • Maintains files and correspondence on active and completed estimates.
  • Provide estimating support to field staff.
  • Drives Estimating process / procedure compliance and consistency.
  • Incorporates / complies with Aecon's risk management policies and procedures.
  • Drives positive relationships and serves as a contact with key subcontractors.
  • Maintains Estimating data systems to ensure they are kept up to date.

What you bring to the team:

  • Prior Piping Estimating / Operational experience is an asset.
  • Experience working in a fabrication facility is considered an asset.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and contract documents.
  • Good knowledge of job cost fundamentals and basic accounting / reporting principles an asset
