The Parks Department is looking for a Supervisor 2 Cemetery to join our team This position is at our Maple Ridge Cemetery at 21404 Dewdney Trunk Rd, which is the front-line provider for the City Cemetery operations service.


POSITION OVERVIEW
As a Supervisor 2 Cemetery, you will be responsible for carrying out all work necessary to provide the critical components of cemetery service, including interments, disinterments, grounds maintenance, landscaping, and memorial marker preparation and installations on a day-to-day basis

Duties may include:

gardening, operating and maintaining equipment necessary for burials, turf maintenance, headstone maintenance, litter control, training seasonal staff, supervising a small work team, performing all aspects of the preparation, setup, and teardown of both casket and cremation interment services, responding to inquiries from the public and community groups, assisting in administering contracts for parks division work, assisting in preparing technical reports and maintaining detailed records.

Minimal supervision is required from the Parks Operations Supervisor, who issues tasks, and periodically reviews work in progress and completed.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


High school graduation supplemented by technical training courses in Parks/Cemetery Management, Turf Grass Management or related fields, plus experience in the operation of backhoes, tractors, trucks, turf and non-turf equipment used in the cemetery maintenance and interment operations, and sound knowledge in all aspects of cemetery operation in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Considerable knowledge of legislation governing the operation of cemeteries in British Columbia.
  • Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, procedures, and materials, tools, and equipment used in cemetery maintenance and interment operations.
  • Ability to plan, assign, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate the work of employees and equipment involved in the Cemetery maintenance and interment operations.
  • Ability to operate a backhoe.
  • Ability to develop work schedules and estimates, and maintain work records.
  • Ability to complete and maintain comprehensive written and oral reports and records as required by federal, provincial and municipal legislation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public at a time of stress.

LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES

  • Class 5 Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Plans, assigns, coordinates, supervises, reviews, evaluates and participates in the work of a Supervisor I, Equipment Operators, Truck Drivers, and Labourers engaged in cemetery maintenance and construction projects; and grave location, preparation of grave sites, interment, placement of marker, and exhumation.
  • This position receives annual increments
