About the Role: Senior Property Accountant

Reporting to the Manager and Supervisor of Property Accounting, the Senior Property Accountant is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and reliable financial reporting for a designated portfolio of commercial properties. This role provides essential support to property managers and administrators.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate property accounting records for the assigned commercial portfolio.
  • Generate monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Assist with capital project cost reconciliation and analysis.
  • Enter journal entries and A/R adjustments.
  • Prepare annual Common Area Maintenance (CAM), tax adjustments, and year-end audit working paper files.
  • Perform month-end activities, including balance sheet reconciliations and financial statement preparation.
  • Assist with budget preparation and various other finance department functions.
  • Support property administration staff with financial inquiries and management of properties.
  • Analyze property records, address outstanding issues, and attend monthly financial review meetings.
  • Monitor cash flow for assigned properties and prepare monthly HST reconciliations.
  • Provide professional and efficient communication with employees, tenants, and vendors.

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Accounting or a related field.
  • CPA designation required.
  • Minimum of three years of accounting experience within the commercial property management industry.
  • Advanced skills in MS Office, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Experience with Yardi property management software.
  • Understanding of real estate terminology.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Strong Excel skills and knowledge of real estate accounting systems.
  • A positive, team-oriented attitude and a willingness to learn and develop.
  • Problem-solving mindset with an ability to identify solutions and take action.
  • Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and demonstrate integrity in decision-making.
