Job Description
We are on the lookout for a Junior Environmental Scientist – Contaminated Sites in our Vancouver office.
You have started your career in contaminated sites and have a desire to continue to learn and grow in a dynamic team environment. You enjoy the challenge of working on many projects concurrently, working with the team to address complex problems, and demonstrate an aptitude for consulting. You are comfortable with completing both field sampling tasks and reporting. You will fill a junior environmental scientist role in our contaminated sites assessment and remediation practice. You will work, both independently and with other scientists, on a wide variety of field and office assignments. Travel, flexibility and field work is required for this position.
Responsibilities will include the following:
- Conducting soil, surface water, vapour and groundwater quality investigations, and summarizing laboratory results.
- Providing field services for contaminated site investigations and spill response projects.
- Completing Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, including research and interviews.
- Preparing technical reports for investigations.
- Liaising with clients, laboratories and contractors.
- Assisting with proposal preparations.
What you will bring to the table:
- Undergraduate degree or applied technical diploma in environmental science, hydrology, physical geography, earth science, chemistry, water resources, or equivalent areas of practice.
- Minimum 2 years of post-graduation experience in contaminated sites.
- Ability to work well under pressure, track progress on multiple tasks, manage logistics, and meet budgets and deadlines.
- Knowledge of the contaminated sites regulatory environment in BC, including the Environmental Management Act and the Contaminated Sites Regulation, and experience with sampling protocols.
- Registered or eligible for registration with a preferred relevant professional body (e.g., EGBC, BCIA, APBBC) or equivalent Federal certification body.
- Excellent written and spoken communication, with proficiency in word processing, data analysis and data presentation.
- Willingness to travel and work remotely.
What we offer:
- Flexible working arrangements.
- Competitive salary and benefits, including extended health, dental coverage, Employee and Family Assistance Program, and matching company pension program.
- Culture that promotes sustainability, accessibility, respect, diversity, and inclusion.
- Ongoing support for your professional development and growth, including mentoring programs, training opportunities, professional designation support, and a Young Professionals Group.
- Work environment that focuses on your health, safety, and overall wellness including fitness allowance, and local wellness activities.
- Opportunities to participate in social club activities and events (including our biennial company-wide Olympics), lunch-and-learns, and community support initiatives.
Post-Secondary Diploma
