KEY QUALIFICATIONS
Among the strengths you bring to the role of Engineer will be the following key qualifications: A professional Engineering Licence and membership in good standing with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO). Considerable experience in municipal engineering, including review or design or construction, or operation or needs assessment and planning of water distribution infrastructure. Considerable experience in hydraulic modelling of water distribution networks and analysis. Considerable experience in the preparation of technical documentation including reports studies,, memoranda and/or briefing notes related to infrastructure analysis or planning recommendations. Considerable experience utilizing municipal guidelines and policies to guide infrastructure development and review proposed alternatives. Experience working as a member of a team and with multiple stakeholders, demonstrating strong verbal and written communication skills, political acuity, and an ability to articulate complex engineering challenges and solutions.Through your background, you've acquired knowledge in infrastructure planning studies and/or masterplans, capital planning, development servicing studies, alternatives analysis, and the ability to interact effectively with consulting engineers, municipal and/or agency staff, planners, contractors, the general public and elected officials on all matters arising from an assigned project.
You also bring knowledge of the principles and practices of municipal engineering water distribution system design and analysis, including hydraulic modelling (Infowater and equivalent software), reviewing modelling results, developing modelling assignment scopes, and working with modelling teams to achieve desired objectives.
This is complemented by knowledge of City by-laws and policies regarding water issues, as well as codes, regulations and requirements. These include, but are not limited to, the Sustainable Water & Sewer System Act (Bill 175), Environmental Assessment Act, Ontario Water Resources Act, Environmental Protection Act, , Source Water Protection Act, Safe Drinking Water Act and the Planning Act.
An analytically minded problem-solver and skilled communicator, comfortable working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders, you can develop solid internal and external working relationships, as well as participate in, and operate as a fully accountable member of a multidisciplinary team. You are adept at reading, interpreting, and reporting on engineering plans and drawings, specifications, correspondence, reports and other documents in a timely manner. Above all, you have what it takes to support the Toronto Public Service values to ensure a culture that champions equity, diversity and respectful workplaces.
While not required, the following would be considered assets for this role:
General knowledge related to monitoring, operating, and maintaining water distribution systems and related equipment. Experience in the preliminary design and/or detailed design and construction of water distribution systems, transmission watermains and pumping stations. Experience in site servicing analysis including knowledge of stormwater management, and sanitary and combined sewer servicing. Knowledge of hydraulic/hydrologic modelling for sanitary and drainage analysis (Infoworks and/or equivalent software). Experience with GIS (Geographic Information Systems) to use software (ArcGIS or equivalent) to develop maps and figures, manage data to guide decisions and plan programs, and undertake technical analysis to support decision-making. Ability to travel to various work locations and construction sites via a valid Province of Ontario Class "G" Driver's Licence, and access to a vehicle.A Qualified List of candidates will be established for the Engineer position in the Water Infrastructure Management section of the Toronto Water Division and will be in effect for up to 6 months from the date the list is created. Qualified candidates on the list may be considered when filling future permanent vacancies in this position.
