The laboratory technician is responsible for supporting the technologists in the Point of Care Team by performing non-technical and pre-analytic duties.


Responsibilities:

  • Inventory management.
  • Communicating and troubleshooting with guidance from the technologists.
  • Urinalysis dipstick, blood gas processing,other as assigned.
  • Maintenance and cleaning of equipment and support equipment (fridges, freezers, centrifuges, pipettes, water baths, safety cabinets and automation and/or analyzers including Point of Care equipment)
  • Support equipment maintenance for other depts. (HEM/TM/FLOW)
  • QC and calibration set up
  • Assist with validations

Qualifications:

  • Successfully completed an accredited Laboratory or Medical Assistant course
  • OSMT (Ontario Society of Medical Technology) or CSMLS (Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science) certification preferred
  • All shift availability 24 hours/7 days is required (Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends and Holidays)
  • Satisfactory attendance and performance required
