General Description
To facilitate youth ministry to middle years students utilizing the 662 Literacy Centre and school based locations, collaborating with other caring adults

This includes:

Recruiting and overseeing volunteers; planning and preparing programming elements and materials; collaborative planning, building community relationships, and overseeing direct contact time with students.

This position requires 10-15 hours per week with Westman YFC.

Work Location and Environment
The 662 Literacy Centre and YFC office; partnering schools

Specific Responsibilities

A. Youth Ministry

Working with individual youths in 2 capacities:

  • Contacting
  • building relationships to earn the right to be heard
  • Crisis intervention responding to teens and preteens in crisis

B. Fundraising

  • Responsible for mobilizing individuals or groups willing to invest financially in young students
  • In collaboration with whole Litgroup team, writing quarterly prayer letters to ministry partners.
  • Regularly relay stories and gratitude to ministry partners and wider community
  • Hosting occasional events for ministry partners.

C. Spiritual Development & Personal Training

  • Take time for prayer, Bible reading and spiritual disciplines, including monthly prayer days
  • Involvement in a missional community of faith
  • Embrace teaching / seminars / conferences for spiritual renewal / growth

D. 662 Literacy Centre Leadership

Volunteers

  • Recruit, supervise and support volunteer teams for the 662 Literacy Centre and discipleship communities.

Facilities

  • Ensure that the your group site is cleaned and maintained.
  • Ensure that the necessary supplies are available to keep the facilities functioning

Advertising

  • Responsible for advertising and public relations for the 662 Literacy Centre and special YFC events.

Programming

  • Responsible for lesson planning and program development for use during the sessions
  • Responsible to help with special event planning and implementation
  • Responsible to acquire resources and curriculum
  • Communication with parents, schools, steering committee, donor base and mailing lists
  • Distribution and collection of quarterly feedback from students, parents, volunteers, schools, steering committee and applicable others (as per relevance and team schedule)
  • Regular program reporting

E. Administration & Staff Relations

  • Ensure effective administration so all areas of the 662 Literacy Centre and related programs are functioning effectively.
  • Meet with supervisor for accountability and encouragement.
  • Attend staff meetings when possible in consultation with supervisor
  • Attend monthly All-Staff team meetings
  • Participate in wider staff events

Basic Requirements

  • A commitment to discipleship of youth

  • Should be able to work well with little supervision
  • Should demonstrate an ability to work well under pressure
  • Should be a "people person" who works well with in a team environment
  • Should possess leadership qualities
  • Should possess the ability to relate to middleyears youth of varying cultures with literacy challenges.

C. _Organizational Compatibility_

  • Ability and willingness to accept and implement the ministry methods and concepts adapted by YFC.
  • Criminal record check (A criminal record would not necessarily disqualify an applicant for this position, depending on what a conviction was for, but given the nature of the duties and responsibilities of this position, it could.)
  • Disclosure of and willingness to deal with any unresolved interpersonal or moral issues which may damage ministry effectiveness.
  • Signing of the statement of faith and community commitments.
