THE OPPORTUNITY

We have an exciting opportunity for a Development Officer role with the Town of Olds, Alberta. As the Development Officer, you will be responsible for processing development applications, providing guidance to various stakeholders, and ensuring positive customer service experiences. IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are seeking a proficient Development Officer who can navigate the permit application process, deliver exceptional customer service, and has a background in Land Use Planning or related field.

THE ORGANIZATION

The Town of Olds, home to Olds College, is a community with significant growth opportunities. In 2021, the Planning and Development team processed building permits worth nearly $9.5 million. With ongoing growth, there are numerous development prospects within the town.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Development & Administration

  • Stay updated on relevant regulations and statutory plans.
  • Evaluate and process development permit applications.
  • Inspect developments for compliance.
  • Review and approve compliance certificate applications.
  • Provide insights to Council on planning and development matters.

Customer Services

  • Advise the public on relevant policies and procedures.
  • Assist customers and developers with permits and amendments.

Risk Management & Safety

Employees must prioritize safety, report any concerns promptly, and promote a safety-conscious culture.

  • Support emergency operations when necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-Secondary education in Land Use Planning or related field.
  • Membership in Alberta Development Officer Association.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license.
  • Minimum three years experience in municipal planning.
  • Working knowledge of relevant Acts and planning documents.

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and GIS.
  • Enforcement of Land Use Regulations.
