What can you expect in this role?
This is a 1-year contract position working 9-hour shifts (7 am to 5 pm), working Tuesday to Friday. In addition, the incumbent must be available to work overtime, evenings and weekends as required.


As a Security Administrator, the incumbent will have an up-to-date understanding of the security measures at all stages of the informatics systems life cycle, as well as a thorough understanding of IT business management, quality management, and risk management.


Responsibilities

  • Provide tier 3 support from a security perspective.
  • Analyze IT security requirements and develop recommended IT security plans, policies, procedures, and standards for approval by management.
  • Implement, maintain, and monitor network security systems including switches, firewalls, servers, intrusion detection systems, wireless systems, and VPNs.
  • Analyze requirements and designs security into server systems dealing with issues such as configuration hardening, patch management, and virus protection.
  • Analyze requirements and design security for local and remote clients, dealing with issues such as authentication, virus protection, configuration management, patch management, and personal firewalls.
  • Collect, monitor, and analyze all security system logs for potential attack threats and malicious activity and reports on security system performance.
  • Conduct risk and vulnerability assessments and performs audits and reviews of IT security systems.
  • Implement and maintain contingency plans and disaster recovery procedures for use in response to system security breaches.
  • Provide backup for the Senior Security Administrator.
  • Communicate effectively with IT and management about security plans, issues and resolutions.
  • Research and track information about current security threats and potential vulnerabilities
- responding to security incidents such as data breaches, virus outbreaks, and other security incidents to contain the damage and prevent further damage to the organization's systems and data.

  • Stay uptodate with the latest security threats and technologies to ensure that the organization's security systems are effective against current and emerging cyber threats
  • Train staff on security procedures and policies.

What you bring to the role?

Experience & Qualifications

  • Ability to analyze problems, develop and simplify procedures and find innovative solutions.
  • Must be a selfstarter with the ability to prioritize regularly scheduled service activities along with urgent (often unscheduled) support requests with a high level of responsiveness.
  • Proven ability to be motivated and work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Technical degree in computer science or a related field focusing on Security or equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a Security role
  • Certifications are an asset, Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) A+, Net+, Security+, CySA+, PenTest+
  • Strong knowledge of network infrastructure, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, etc.
  • Strong understanding of the business, industry and technology trends is an important asset.
  • Familiarity with VPNs, switches, and routers & firewalls
  • Microsoft certification is preferred, but not required based on level of experience.
