The Opportunity
Merit Foods is seeking a resourceful, people oriented hands on individual that is passionate about Food Safety and Quality who will guide and support the Food Safety Team.
This position is responsible to ensure we have controls and procedures in place to ensure we manufacture safe, quality products that meet both our customer and regulatory requirements.
You will be responsible for updating, verifying and maintaining the company's Food Safety Systems, Programs, Food Safety Culture and HACCP plan.
What you'll do- Ensure the ongoing implementation, adherence and continual improvement of the Food Safety Quality Management Systems including GMP, HACCP, as well as regulatory ( CFIA, Health Canada, FDA) and elected standards ( Organic, Kosher, nonGMO).
- Review and maintain a HACCP plan including documentation such as SOP's as well as maintenance of manuals, policies and procedures as it relates to food safety concerns.
- Coordinate audits of plant facility, suppliers, comanufactures and outside warehouse to establish compliance with regulatory requirements and/or to enact the necessary corrective measures.
- Monitor and verify activities to ensure all products coming in and out of the facility meet food safety standards in addition to quality standards.
- Ensure the facility Pest Control, Hold and Release Program and Food Traceability meets requirements and is communicated to all team members.
- Provides training to team members, vendors and client's regarding the adequacy of food safety program and pest control.
- Oversees the tracking, Trending, analysis and reporting of Food Safety information and Customer Complaints.
- Corresponds with plant personnel to investigate customer and consumer issues including root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventative actions.
- Mentors and motivates team members providing training and development to optimize their performance and personal growth.
- Experience with the implementation of a GFSI scheme (preferably BRC)
- Experience in developing and implementing key quality and food safety programs both from scratch and from an established platform
- Demonstrated expertise with GMP, HACCP, and LEAN principles
- Display good work ethic, resourcefulness, and organization.
- Excellent interpersonal, motivational, team building and leadership abilities
- Superior report writing, facilitation and negotiation skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Share Point)
- Strong presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills and root cause analysis
- Detailoriented, responsible, selfmotivated individual with strong problemsolving skills
Your Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, or another related/technical field is a must
- 4+ years in food manufacturing quality & food safety management, supplier assurance, regulatory affairs, or related technical field.
- 35 years of direct people management, capability development and change leadership
