The Manager, Signals and Communication (S&C) is responsible for overseeing a designated territory.
In addition, the incumbent is accountable for all S&C maintenance and installation programs, signal systems, inspection activities, and management of critical voice and data communication systems.
Main ResponsibilitiesManagement
- Manage assigned personnel to ensure S&C communications work is performed with CN's and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) standards, and in conjunction of applicable collective bargaining agreements
- Direct supervisors, recommend appropriate corrective actions to resolve performance issues, as well as respond to and resolve grievances
- Build safety compliance and improve safety results through efficiency testing and safety walkabouts
- Provide positive and constructive feedback as well as coaching
- Plan, implement, and manage Capital projects to ensure execution of the plan within CN and FRA standards
- Participate in activities related to derailments and disruptions in service, while working with Transportation and Mechanical to determine cause and future prevention
The role requires on having shift work which includes: irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays and a combination of office work and working outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.
The incumbent must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, meet deadlines, interface with senior management, and respond to unexpected or emergency situations.
This position requires regular for company business, at times without advance notice.Requirements:
Experience
Signals and Communications
- Minimum 4 years of experience in S&C
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a S&C supervisory role
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience
- High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED)
- 2year Technical Degree
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field
- Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset
- Follows safety procedures, information security instructions and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles to lead by example
- Develops solutions that aligns with customers' expectations to increase satisfaction
- Shares timely information within and across functions to get things done effectively
- Inspires others with impactful communications and adapts to the audience
- Tracks metrics to achieve ambitious targets and holds self and others accountable to meet performance expectations
- Deals with pressure and change by staying calm to quickly adapt to changes
- Extensive working knowledge of S&C systems infrastructure and related safety appliances, S&C project management, applicable regulatory signal systems, general instructions, railway S&C standards, standard S&C specifications and procedures
- Knowledge of Track Inspection System ( TIS ), Systems, Applications and Products (SAP), and Train Management Dispatch System (TMDS)
