Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Supervise and mentor staff under his/her responsibility.
  • Participate in the process of integrating and evaluating the performance of the professionals on his/her team.
  • Coordinate, assign and prioritize projects for his/her team.
  • Monitor the budget for the various projects in his/her team, and support project managers in ensuring the profitability of each project.
  • Ensure followup of invoicing for your team's projects, approval of subcontractor invoices and followup on payment from clients.
  • Ensure that deadlines are met for the various phases of projects.
  • Participate, if necessary, in the management of disputes that may arise with employees in collaboration with your superior and human resources.
  • Act as environmental expert, reference, mentor and resource person for the entire division and for the firm.
  • Carry out, coordinate or supervise the completion of environmental studies of varying scale, ensuring compliance with established budgets and deadlines.
  • Write and revise various technical reports in accordance with current procedures and standards, and actively participate in standardizing the content of these reports.
  • Implement best practices in project management on projects and promote best practices in project management to project managers: project planning, budget management, kickoff meetings, customer followup, ontime delivery, rigor and quality.
  • Participate, as required, in field investigations, inspection and testing services on a wide variety of projects.
  • Manage and administer assigned projects and ensure work planning, execution and followup of ongoing projects.
  • Control the quality of work performed by project managers and site technicians.
  • Analyze and prepare environmental reports.
  • Monitor project budgets, approve invoices and follow up with customers on payments.
  • Attend various internal and external planning and site meetings according to work schedules agreed with customers, to provide environmental advice.
  • Attend project and team coordination, monitoring and planning meetings.
  • Participate in the review of deliverables in environmental expertise to achieve high standards of quality and recommendations that meet customer needs.
  • Participate in the drafting of professional service offers.
  • All other tasks inherent to the position.

Skills and competencies to excel in the role and profile sought:

  • University degree in civil engineering and/or geology or natural and/or earth sciences.
  • Have a minimum of 10 years' experience in environmental consulting, focusing on the assessment and remediation of contaminated sites, QPESA certified.
  • Understanding of provincial and federal environmental regulations, with a focus on the City of Ottawa and Ontario guidelines.
  • Knowledge of Phase I and II environmental site assessments and remediation and common contaminants.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret site survey data to determine contaminants and their concentrations.
  • Sampling expertise.
  • Demonstrate leadership and commitment to customer care, communications and customer service in environmental expertise.
