As a member of the housekeeping team upholding Maplewood Care Society's Vision, Mission, Philosophy Statements, and established policies and procedures, committing to professional and Care Home codes of ethics and functions within the regulations, standards, and guidelines governing residential care.


Under the direction and supervision of the Housekeeping and Laundry Supervisor, the Housekeeping Aide performs assigned duties related to the cleaning, maintenance, and servicing of resident accommodations and other areas which fall under the scope of the Maplewood Care Society practices and in compliance with applicable codes and regulations.

Maintains clean, safe, and orderly work sites.

Education, Experience, and Abilities:

- the scope and practice of the Housekeeping Aides are governed by the policies and procedures of the facility and by relevant legislation.

  • Qualifications and skills include but are not limited to:
  • Sound knowledge of safe handling of chemicals and the ability to operate related equipment.
  • The ability to organize and prioritize is required to accomplish tasks on time.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to handle interaction with residents, families, staff, contractors, and vendors, both verbally and in writing.
  • Certified in W.H.M.I.S
  • Previous related experience, preferably at a residential care facility or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions; follow orders and complete work assignments with a minimum of supervision.
  • Ability to keep resident's matters strictly confidential and exercise courtesy and cooperation towards residents, families, visitors, coworkers, and other staff members.
  • Ability to satisfactorily maintain a high standard of service and cleanliness.
  • Ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job.
  • Be a team member as part of the multidisciplinary approach to the overall care of the longterm care residents.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Perform hands-on cleaning, maintenance, and servicing work that is consistent with the goals of the Department

This is accomplished by:

  • Carrying out the following duties include but are not limited to:
  • Cleans and services rooms, baths, showers, lavatories, offices, etc., and all other areas as designated.
  • Cleans, mops, vacuums, washes, strips, and polishes/burnish floors; shampoos carpet and fabric chairs.
  • Washes, dust, clean lights, outside of vents, walls, windows, and doors.
  • Cleans items such as furniture, woodwork, ledges, fixtures, and blinds.
  • Assists with inventory counts.
  • Ability to use and maintain related equipment by cleaning, lubricating, and replacing items such as filter bags and belts, ensuring safe practice.
  • Communicates equipment and supply needs such as damaged and/or inoperable fixtures and furniture, and reports safety hazards.
  • Replenishes supplies as required.
  • As a Team Member, takes an active role in the harmonious functioning of the department and the facility.
  • Locks windows and doors following facility security procedures.
  • Maintains records as established.
  • Participates in the Quality Improvement program.
  • Maintain housekeeping storage areas in good order.
  • Attends pertinent meetings/ inservices.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of the Workplace Materials Information System (WHMIS).
  • Gains jobspecific expertise through various sources (e.g. onthejob training, trade publications, vendor publications, and manuals, etc.) to become proficient in the identified primary field.
  • Receives direction, guidance, and instruction from Environmental Service Manager in the correct operation of equipment and materials used to complete required maintenance activities.
  • Ensure public areas, resident rooms, and work areas are kept in proper running order and safe according to daily documented routines.
  • Ensuring that policies and procedures of the department are consistently followed.
  • Participating in inhouse ongoing training and education, committees, and meetings, as required.
  • Maintaining direct resident contact and involvement in resident care as part of the Multidisciplinary Team.
  • Performs any other duties as are necessary and/or assigned.
