Purpose of Position
The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) is centered around the idea that respect and understanding of human rights can serve as a positive force for change in the world.
The Project Manager, Facilities will support our collective efforts to build a workplace culture that is inclusive, equitable, innovative and focused on inspiring action.
Reporting to the Manager, Facilities, the Project Manager, Facilities will work under the direction and framework of the centralized Project Management Office.
They will be the primary contact for all internal stakeholder and client facility support service project activities and will be responsible for coordinating all tasks associated with assigned renovation, modification and construction projects from concept through to design, planning, execution and closing.
This position provides Facilities support and manages all aspects of facilities projects, as assigned.
The incumbent will be a strong and thoughtful communicator, critical thinker, innovator, and will bring a collaborative approach to their role.
Key Responsibilities
- Contributes to a culture that promotes respect, equity, inclusion and innovation, and models antiracist and accountable behaviors.
- Develops comprehensive project plans that include planning documents for initiation of projects, scope of work documents, requests for proposals, budgets, project schedules and other deliverables for the conceptualization, approval and execution of facilities projects.
- Coordinates with all groups and stakeholders to facilitate facility planning, budgeting and scheduling.
- Prepares requests for proposals and associated tasks for the acquisition and provision of necessary engineering and construction services.
- Ensures effective and timely written and verbal communication with consultants, service providers and internal customers and stakeholders throughout all the phases of facilities projects.
- Prepares and develops project reports and controls project expenditures, scope and schedule.
- Reviews plans, specifications, and documentation for compliance with appropriate building codes, specifications and operational and project requirements.
- Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of new and existing standards of practice.
- Prepares and participates in the preparation of research reports, funding proposals, operation and maintenance procedure manuals and other written material and documentation as required.
Required Qualifications
- Completed education at the college or university level in a related discipline, or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience in a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in project management.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in the construction industry with exposure mainly to the electrical and mechanical trades in new construction and in modifications to existing buildings.
- Commitment to human rights principles, including respect, equity, inclusion, and dignity for all.
- Knowledge of building codes, standards of practice, construction contracts and contracting, and construction materials and methodologies.
- Demonstrated experience in solving problems within a project framework by making collaborative decisions.
- Experience in coordinating, planning and assisting with the execution of facilities projects.
- Skills in reading and interpreting plans and specifications and in comparing with project progress.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Desired Qualifications
- Certification in Project management.
- Knowledge of MS Project.
- Ability to communicate proficiently in both official languages.
- Ability to maintain a focus on customer / client support service.
- Facility operations experience (building management systems, operations, repair, etc.).
- Working knowledge of facility drawings, and ability to work with design software (AutoCAD, etc.).
