JOB DESCRIPTION

Overview

The City of Cornwall is seeking a Supervisor, Resident Care for the Glen Stor Dun Lodge. The Supervisor, Resident Care leads and supports a team of PSWs, ensuring the delivery of resident and family-centered personal support services meet Glen Stor Dun Lodge's standards of excellence.

The Resident Care Supervisor is responsible in ensuring the proper execution of the following:


• Ensure that the care routines are followed, while providing support and direction to all PSW staff.


• Ensure that the needs and safety of the residents, families, and staff are met, inclusive of verifying completion documentation by PSW staff.


• Discuss resident needs with PSW staff and liaise with Registered Staff and other team members to ensure a coordinated service approach.


• Responsible for the recruitment, hiring and discipline of PSW personnel in conjunction with the Director of Care and Nursing Supervisors.


• Keep up-to-date knowledge of changing regulations, legislation, practices and procedures as required.


• Reviews and monitors daily reports, and in addition makes rounds of the home to ensure that care being given is in keeping with the home's guidelines, and that all resident needs are being met.


• Reviews all resident incidents, completes incident reports, investigates complaints, and issues Corrective Action while monitoring performance, as required. Keeps the Nursing Supervisors and Leadership Team informed accordingly.


• Liaise closely with the Nutrition Care team, as well as other inter-disciplinary teams as appropriate.


• Ensure maximum safety for residents and staff at all times (ensure staff follow policy and procedures related to Fall Prevention, Wound Care, Continence Care, Restraint Use, Responsive Behaviour Management and Pain Management) and ensure awareness and compliance with safety-related issues, such as when lifting, transferring, mobility, handling medications, etc.


• Deal with emergency situations through professional response and communication.


• Maintain nursing supplies inventory by reviewing usage reports; identifying trends, anticipating needed supplies. (ex. Incontinence Program)


• Work with Staff Development Officer to encourage and monitor participation in core education for PSW staff to facilitate orientation, staff development and/or safe practices.


• Be willing to work flexible hours and when off duty, may required be on call for emergencies. In exceptional circumstances, may be called upon to cover registered staff shifts.


• Assists the leadership team with Continuous Quality Improvement projects/audits.


• Completes scheduling approvals, maintains department schedules to cover daily staffing and coordinate coverage for unplanned vacancies. Responsible for reviewing and approving PSW payroll submissions.

Required Qualifications & Experience

An individual with supervisory experience who has exemplary communication skills and can interact in a professional, culturally competent manner with residents, staff, teams and community partners. Possession of an RPN license. 3 years or more of health care experience preferably supervisory with a deep knowledge of the Long-Term Care Home system (preferably working with PSWs). A motivational leader and strong team player who promotes resident and family-centered care and engagement. Highly organized and comfortable working in a constantly shifting environment, responding to changes in resident needs. Able to work effectively under pressure and adhere to deadlines. Advanced experience with Point Click Care Software and/or other similar EHR software is an asset, along with a keen desire to bring technology to the bedside. Ability to work independently and as a member of a collaborative Leadership Team. Ideally, prior supervisory experience within a unionized setting and know what it takes to uncover talent and innovation as you build and inspire a highly engaged large team. Working knowledge of relevant employment and Long-Term Care Home statutes. A valid Driver's License and access to a vehicle are required. A proven track record of effectively handling complaints and resolving conflicts. Demonstrated efforts to continually develop and upgrade your skills. Bilingualism an asset.
