Job Description:
The Inpatient Oncology & Palliative Care unit consists of 42 budgeted beds at the CVH Site and is staffed by inter-professional teams who support the care of oncology and palliative care patients. Our teams provide high quality-patient centered care in an innovative environment to support the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of our patients. We are dedicated to building a diverse workforce that reflects the community in which we live and serve.
Qualifications:
Masters Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or equivalent CASLPO registration Experience in acute adult communication and swallowing disorders in a hospital setting is essential Experience in end of life care is essential Experience with elderly patients with co-morbid neurological, surgical and medical conditions is essential Experience in oncology care is preferred Current experience with swallowing videofluoroscopy is essential. Certification in MBSImp is preferred. If not MBSImp certified, then willingness to become certified is required. Must have excellent communication, organizational and teamwork skills and be self-directed in a changing work environment, including multiple work settings to support clinical needs hospital-wide Must have demonstrated initiative and ability to make timely professional decisions Demonstrated commitment to continuing education as relevant to clinical practice and professional growthPosition Summary:
Assessment, management and counselling of swallowing and communication needs of palliative and oncology patients Provision of clinical services to support of hospital wide coverage will constitute a portion of this position Education and training for staff, family, students and volunteers to maximize patient goals Contribution to the interdisciplinary team to support clinical and program initiatives and priorities Contribution to the SLP service to advocate for and enhance the quality of the service within the organization and community Caseload responsibilities may change to accommodate SLP needs throughout the organization Expectation to contribute to clinical education of graduate SLP students on an annual basis Participation in promotional and professional activitiesInternal Candidates who believe they possess the necessary qualifications and experience for this position and who have been in their current position for at least six (6) months are encouraged to apply.
