D.M. Wills Associates Limited, located in Peterborough Ontario, is in search of an Engineering Intern/Project Engineer to join our Structural (Bridge) Department. The ideal candidate will have a background in bridge engineering.

Reporting to the Structural (Bridge) Department Manager, you will be responsible for projects from inception to completion and provide project management and engineering services in support of a range projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Involvement in preliminary and detail design.
  • Identify and solve complex engineering design issues in order to satisfy clients' needs while adhering to applicable policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Complete preliminary and detailed design calculations in order to support engineering recommendations.
  • Prepare project estimates, budget, schedules, and execution plans.
  • Undertake technical and feasibility studies including site investigations.
  • Prepare technical reports.
  • Liaise with internal and external clients, including staff, clients, agencies, and sub-consultants.
  • Preparation of technical specifications and contract documents.
  • Manage budgets and project resources, monitoring progress against budget and forecasted schedule.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting standards are maintained throughout each project.
  • Review the work of junior design staff and complete quality control review for internal technical submissions.
  • Stamp and sign engineering drawings and reports under their responsibility (where applicable).

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering.
  • Working towards obtaining or have already obtained license as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario (PEO).
  • 3 years of relevant experience related to the key responsibilities of the position.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of tender, RFP, RFQ submissions.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of contract administration.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of project management.
  • Solid understanding of engineering theory, concepts and regulations related to field of work.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite of tools including, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Project.
  • Practical working knowledge of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CSA S6), and the MTO Structural Rehabilitation Manual, Structural Manual, and relevant design policies standards and specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of the Ontario Health and Safety Act.
  • Solid knowledge of other legislation and regulations related to department functions.
  • Strong knowledge of the appropriate use of structural systems, materials, and technologies.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
