The main responsibilities for MACHINE SHOP OPERATOR_ _
Include:_

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts, and tables or study sample parts to determine the machining operation to be performed and plan the best sequence of operations.
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and calipers.
  • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
  • Ensure workpiece dimensions are correct and establish tolerance criteria.
  • Measure, examine, and test completed parts, identifying defects and ensuring conformance to specifications and blueprints.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  • Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products, and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
  • Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in the preparation of machinery work.
  • Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock in order to display the placement of cuts.
  • Check workpieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated and cooled.
  • Position and fasten workpieces.
  • Operate equipment to verify operational efficiency.
  • Install repaired parts into equipment or install new equipment.
  • Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment in order to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter.
  • Confer with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel in order to exchange technical information.
  • Dismantle machines or equipment, using hand tools and power tools, in order to examine parts for defects and replace defective parts where needed.
  • Fit and assemble parts to make or repair machine tools.
  • Set up and operate metalworking, brazing, heattreating, welding, and cutting equipment.
  • Responsible for keeping equipment and work area clean and orderly and performing basic preventative maintenance functions on equipment.
  • Use the appropriate protective equipment and respect all GVA Lighting's safety rules and regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Secondary Certificate/High School Diploma or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations.
  • 23+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Previous CNC programming experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of various measuring gages: micrometers, pin gages, dial indicator, screw pitch gages, height gages, and comparator stand/gage
  • Good communication skills and attention to detail.
