Norfolk County is looking for a Director of Planning to join their Community Development department. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about fostering planning and quality developments within urban and rural communities, with a focus on customer service and leading high-performing teams.
Main Responsibilities:
- Education and Designations: University degree in Planning, Urban Studies or related field. Membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners or eligible for membership, preferably with a Registered Professional Planner designation in Ontario.
- Planning and Development Services Experience: Minimum of five years of progressive experience, showcasing strong leadership skills and expertise in overseeing development applications, site planning, and architectural review in a growth-oriented municipal setting.
- Critical Thinking: Exceptional business acumen and critical thinking skills to align departmental strategies with business goals in a growth-oriented environment.
- People Leadership: Senior management experience in the public sector, with a focus on coaching, mentoring, and inspiring staff to foster teamwork, initiative, and innovation.
- Operational Excellence: Proven track record in leadership, innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement within a team dynamic.
- Interpersonal Abilities: Outstanding skills in negotiation, influence, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills for providing strategic advice and presenting recommendations to Council and executive staff.
