Home Support Worker - Complex Care Housing

Elsie Paul Literacy Centre and the Nook Social Enterprise Cafe both located at the Powell River Public Library.

Opportunity
We are hiring Home Support Workers to join the newly forming qathet Complex Care Housing (CCH) team.


Home Support Workers will work collaboratively with participants in their homes in Powell River and Tla'amin to perform regular housekeeping, decluttering, and personal support according to established care plans.

Home Support plans are designed to assist participants with complex mental health and substance use to retain their housing as a foundation to meeting their personal goals.

Hours:2-3 positions for hours per week


Shifts:8-hour shifts scheduled Monday to Sunday between 7 am and 11 pm.


Hourly Wage:$ $25.05, on a 5-step wage grid

Summary


Within the context of a client-centered care model and in accordance with established vision and values of Lift Community Services, VCH, and Tla'amin Health, the Home Support Worker works under general supervision and in cooperation with multi-disciplinary team members to assist in the delivery of client care at Lift Supportive Housing, Lift Overnight Shelter, Lift Community Resource Centre, and Tla'amin sites.


Home Support Workers provide support and basic skill training to CCH clients in their living environment while encouraging independence, responsibility, and skill development.

Following established care plans and a culturally safe, client-centered model, the Home Support Worker assists identified CCH participants with housekeeping and decluttering; personal care and hygiene; and coordination of community resources.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures client's housing security by performing tasks such as removing clutter deemed to be fire and/or health hazards, cleaning client room and doing personal laundry
  • Cleans, washes, disinfects resident rooms such as walls, windows, ceilings, floors, carpets, furniture, mattresses, blinds, kitchen counters, fridges, microwaves, and washrooms by methods such as dusting, polishing, sweeping, wet mopping, shampooing, and defrosting using various manual and power cleaning equipment. Cleans, dusts and wipes down various appliances and accessories
  • Collects and disposes of garbage and harm reduction supplies, following established safety protocols
  • Provides cleaning guidance to the residents and works alongside participants as they clean and organize their rooms
  • Prepares client's room for fumigation by pest control personnel in accordance with established procedures
  • Observes clients and their living environment, identifies and assesses potential emergency situations, and develops shortterm strategies to deal with such situations including deescalating challenging behaviours

  • Reports any nonroutine maintenance needs, safety, or health concerns to Building Coordinator
  • Identifies available social, economic, recreational, and educational services and resources in the community that will meet residents needs. Provides residents with related information
