The Opportunity

Join Our Dynamic Team as a Technologist and dive into a World of Innovation and Impact with Our Land Development and Municipal Engineering Team

Reporting to a Senior Project Engineer, Team Lead, this position will be responsible for the execution of a variety of design activities including, preparing AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Bentley Microstation design drawings, technical specifications, quantity and cost estimates for tender and construction for municipal engineering and land development projects. This role will include various field inspections for design conformance reviews as well as surveying, and contract administration. The opportunity will have a focus on local projects within Ottawa and surrounding areas.

What you can expect to do here:

A day in the life of a Technologist is a blend of collaboration and technical expertise. Each week starts with a team huddle with other Technologists, Project Managers and Engineers to align on the week's objectives. The bulk of the day is spent using the advanced features of AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Bentley Microstation, meticulously crafting design drawings and manipulating 3D models for various infrastructure projects. Coordination with other disciplines is key to ensure all aspects of the project fit together seamlessly. The day often extends beyond the desk, with site inspections to guarantee that construction aligns with the design intent. Each task, from drafting, preparing specifications to calculating costs, contributes to the tangible development of the community's infrastructure.

In addition to these responsibilities, a Technologist is prepared to take on other duties as required, showcasing their versatility and commitment to the team. This may include assistance with design, proposals, administering active construction projects, and project management. Their contributions are essential to the successful delivery of public and private sector projects, impacting communities by enhancing the efficiency and safety of infrastructure.

What you'll bring to WSP:
  • Graduated from a three (3) year college program in Civil Engineering Technology or an equivalent program;
  • Eligible to obtain Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) designation, or interested in obtaining C.E.T. designation;
  • 0-3 years of engineering design consulting experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Bentley Microstation in a variety of projects (road reconstructions and site plan approvals would be an asset);
  • Familiarity with working in a BIM environment;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Excel applications and Autodesk Civil 3D is required.
  • Knowledge of Bentley Microstation and/or OpenRoads, and Autodesk Revit is an asset.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications;
  • Willing to develop a sound knowledge of engineering standards and principals, practices and techniques;
  • Interest in obtaining a comprehensive knowledge of Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications (OPSS) and Ontario Provincial Standard Drawings (OPSD);
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent communication skills - written and verbal, including teamwork and interpersonal abilities;
  • Comfortable working independently in both an office and field environment; and a
  • Valid Ontario driver's license.
