Join our dynamic team at Georgian College, where we are committed to delivering an unrivaled student experience. This pivotal role as a Security Analyst, reporting to the Manager, of IT Infrastructure, contributes to safeguarding information assets, providing exceptional customer service. The incumbent embraces information security, monitoring remediation and maintenance of IT security systems including on-premise and Cloud environments. The incumbent maintains the Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), Security Orchestration Automation and Response (SOAR), Extended Detection and Response (XDR) of the College's networks. The incumbent undertakes cyber incident response and investigations, threat hunting as well as undertakes security training awareness development, and website vulnerability monitoring. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Defender Security

• Monitors various systems and networks for signs of suspicious or malicious activity. This involves analyzing logs, alerts, and other security data to detect potential threats.

• Identifies anomalies or potential threats and investigates further to understand the nature; whether it is a false positive or genuine security threat

• Conducts detailed investigations of confirmed security incidents which includes examining the attack vectors, understanding the impact, and assessing the extent of compromise.

• Responds by formulating an appropriate response strategy. This may involve isolating affected systems, blocking malicious traffic, or taking other remediation actions.

• Works across various cloud environments (such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud) to secure resources. This includes using tools like Microsoft Sentinel, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, and Microsoft 365 Defender.

• Collaborates with third-party security solutions in addition to Microsoft's native security tools to enhance overall protection

Security Monitoring, Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing

• Builds effective playbooks to document and respond to cyber security incidents

• Develops workbooks, tools and resources that help the organization evaluate approach and plan for improvements, such as tracking exposure, risk and assessing impact (such as NIST planning tools)

• Plans coordinating audits to conform to business operating systems, and compliance requirements for Cyber Security Insurance

• Coordinates, schedules, and undertakes an ongoing technical penetration testing (PT) to meet mandatory compliance requirements and audits

• Audits & Reports as the champion for end user awareness training and key performance indicators

• Works closely with the Operations team to provide input and guidance on remediation as well as mitigation efforts

• Understands Advanced Threat Protection, providing real time, threat protection

• Maintains Conditional Access Policies and automation, based on conditions, location, device, and risk activity

Cyber Incident Response and Digital Forensics

• Under the guidance and direction of the Manager IT Security, undertakes cyber incident response activities and coordinates activities

• Maintains cyber forensic technologies with current configurations and makes enhancement acquisition recommendations

Network, Operating Systems, Applications and Database Security

• Contributes to the development and maintenance of the Information Security and Data Privacy program, management systems, policies, standards, frameworks and security architecture
o Reviews and maintains system security policies, procedures and regulatory practices, Security and Data Privacy, provincial/federal legislation (e.g. FIPPA, PHIPA, Criminal Code of Canada, Copyright Act, PCI, PHI), regulations (e.g. Canadian Anti-Spam Regulations)
o Maintains detailed CPE with their CISM certification
o Collaborates, and communicates well with others using IT Teams
o Aligns with best practices from NIST, CIS, CSEC and SANS
o Participates within IT application development and system deployment projects to provide technical security advice and guidance, and act as a reviewer of statements of requirements, operating manuals, and other project deliverables
o Provides a point of escalation ad-hoc technical security advice and guidance to internal and external customers
o Participates in IT disaster recovery projects, tests and related initiatives
o Participates in the conduct of Threat and Risk Assessments (TRAs), Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), Security Reviews, System Compliance Reviews and Security Audits.

Other Related Duties as Assigned

• Assists with Information Security Unit programs, projects and other initiatives as required.

Qualifications:

• Successfully completed a three-year diploma or degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, or Engineering or related field

• Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP) with CCNA routing and switching would support the cisco environment is required

• Optional types of certifications such as CIH, CHFI,CSA,SSCP,GCIH, CISM, CISA CEH, GSEC, ITIL, Cloud certifications such as GCP, Azure, ISC2, CC, CSOC, Security+ would be considered an asset

• Five years' experience in Cyber Security as a Cyber Security Analyst or relevant role

• General knowledge of and experience working within the (ISC)2 CISSP common body of knowledge 10 domains, CCSP 6 domains, and CEH domains

• Working knowledge of ISO 27001, NIST-800-53

• Excellent understanding of and experience with Cisco networking technologies, DNA, ISE, etc.

• Knowledge of Palo Alto NG firewalls is considered an asset

• Experience with mobile security tools and MDM/intune/Jamf technologies

• Experience with Microsoft SIEM is considered an asset

• Knowledge of cloud security models, technologies and services is considered an asset

• Knowledge of, applicability and administration of FIPPA, PHIPA is considered an asset

• Experience developing technical security training and awareness curriculum and delivering to variety of audiences
