With more than 60 years of experience, Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) is one of 36 Conservation Authorities in Ontario, created to safeguard and enhance the health and well-being of watershed communities through the protection and restoration of the natural environment and the ecological services the environment provides.
How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:
The Education Interpreter delivers hands-on environmental, cultural heritage, nature, recreation, and renewable energy programs (dependent on location) to visitors and visitor groups of TRCA/partner sites and facilities, as well potentially at client sites.
The Education Interpreter plays an active role in customer experience ensuring all visitors have a positive experience.Major Responsibilities:
- Guides and leads visitors and visitor groups to TRCA's sites and facilities on established programs focused on environmental, cultural heritage, nature, recreation, and renewable energy (dependent on location)
- Learns program content to be able to effectively deliver interactive programs to various audiences.
- Ensures program equipment/supplies including artifacts are well maintained, clean and stored appropriately.
- Provides support in program development and administrative tasks as required.
What will you need to succeed:
Education (degree/diploma/certifications/licenses)
- Minimum pursuing a postsecondary diploma or degree in a related field.
- 2+ years of experience working with children in a group setting.
- Experience working with large groups in delivering programs and activities.
- Previous experience delivering environmental, nature or historical programs.
- Ability to deliver programs/information to audiences of various ages, adapting style to ensure audience appropriateness.
- Ability to communicate effectively with tact and courtesy.
- Experience interacting and connecting with persons of various social, cultural, or economic backgrounds; at ease with a variety of audiences.
- Strong communication skills to provide clear and concise communication in both nonemergency and emergency situations.
- Able to selfmanage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
- Demonstrates responsiveness to internal and external customer requests and needs.
- Able to comprehend written documentation and procedural guidelines.
- Must be flexible to work all required shifts, including weekends and holidays.
