Position Summary:


Centennial College's General Ledger's team is looking for a self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving skills to execute on day-to-day reporting activities and special projects.

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting, the incumbent will work independently and with inter-departmental stakeholders to deliver on various complex and detailed financial analyses including: develop and maintain complex spreadsheets and financial schedules for audit, troubleshoot financial data or system problems; in addition, provide expert advice on financial monitoring and use of the finance system to members of the College community.


Responsibilities:

  • Prepares complex spreadsheets and provide insightful financial analysis
  • Reconcile accounts, ensure compliance with accounting policy
  • Prepare audit files in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and contractual requirements for small program audits of the college
  • Provides expertise, support and acts in a leadership role towards the daytoday banking issues, cash management and cheque preparation activities
  • Prepares forecasting and cash flow analysis to management
  • Maintains the data records in the capital asset module and review asset purchases to ensure they are accurate and in accordance with statutory requirements and the capital asset policy
  • Primary contact for College budget holders
  • Works closely with members of other departments to resolve financial data concerns (i.e. payroll, advancement, student financial services, human resources, academic areas, etc.).
  • Provides system support and provides training on the use of the finance system & reporting to end users
  • Responds to financial data questions, interprets contract financial reporting requirements and performs financial analysis assistance upon request
  • Provides advice, expertise, and assists budget holders to resolve financial problems on time
  • Participate in special projects and perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications/Experience

  • Minimum four (4) year degree in Business, Accounting, or the equivalent education and accounting or auditing experience
  • CPA designation required
  • Minimum of three (3) years progressive experience gained in an accounting or auditing environment
  • Advanced Excel skills with the ability to design and maintain spreadsheets (e.g. Pivot Tables, HLookup, VLookup, Macros etc.)
  • Experience working with spreadsheet and/or database software (e.g. Access)
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Selfstarter with high initiative in delivering results
  • Proven organizational skills to balance the demands and deadlines of the position
  • Able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
  • Proven problemsolving and analytical skills
  • Proven high attention to detail and accuracy
