Arcadis is in search of an experienced Accessibility Specialist with a passion for universal design across complex projects from start to finish. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in developing and implementing universal design strategies. They should possess a detailed knowledge of accessibility regulations, Ontario Building Code (OBC), Human Rights codes, AODA-DOPS, Accessibility Standards Canada standards, Americans with Disabilities Act Design Standards, Accessible Canada Act, ISO standards, Metrolinx, GO Universal Design Standards, among others. This is an exciting career opportunity for a creative professional to tackle dynamic projects locally and globally.
Our Global Architecture & Urbanism Division combines the expertise of IBIs Buildings and Placemaking practice, Places capabilities, and CRTKLs multi-sector design leadership to offer solutions centered on human-centric design, sustainability, and technology.
Role Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with a diverse team (architecture, urban design, engineering, interior design, and wayfinding) to support design and construction projects.
- Serve as a Technical Advisor, providing expert guidance on accessibility matters.
- Offer technical expertise on accessibility requirements for various projects, including large transit system designs.
- Review architectural drawings, details, and materials to ensure compliance with accessibility standards.
- Conduct thorough assessments to identify and solve potential accessibility barriers.
- Stay updated on evolving accessibility regulations and best practices to inform design decisions effectively.
- Engage with accessibility committees and government partners.
- Integrate standards from external groups into project designs as needed.
- Assist in the construction administration phase for universal design compliance.
Qualifications and Experience:
All candidates must include a portfolio with their CV/Resume
- Relevant post-secondary education or Architectural Technologist Degree.
- 5+ years of experience in developing universal design strategies across various projects.
- Extensive knowledge of accessibility regulations, OBC, AODA-DOPS, Accessibility Standards Canada, Americans with Disabilities Act, Accessible Canada Act, ISO, and other relevant building codes.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe InDesign/Illustrator, and Bluebeam/Adobe Acrobat markups.
- Familiarity with MicroStation is a plus.
- Analytical mindset with strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- IAAP Certified Professional in Accessible Built Environments (Level 2 preferred) and Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification are advantageous.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
