Located in Hamilton's downtown core, Hamilton General Hospital provides leading edge care and is home to a number of regional referral programs. The neurosciences and trauma program is a provincial leader in both volume and complexity of care provided. The HGH stroke program has pioneered an integrated approach to care, and our burn treatment program is one of only two in Ontario. The cardiac and vascular program performs more heart surgeries and procedures than any other facility in the province.
Position SummaryAcute Medicine 8 South is an active adult general internal medicine unit with a 4-bed Step-Down Unit. An interdisciplinary team provides care to an acutely ill, primarily geriatric, patient population, including patients with multi-system chronic illnesses.
Using a client-centered approach, the Registered Nurse (RN) provides leadership in the coordination and evaluation of nursing care of patients with multisystem medical conditions awaiting transition to the community setting. The RN works collaboratively with interdisciplinary team members and community agencies to coordinate care and education of patients and their families. Through evidence-based clinical practice and strong leadership in healthcare delivery, the RN sets the standards of excellence in the care of patients at HHS. The RN establishes and implements education plans with and for patients and families and acts as an accessible and knowledgeable resource for patients and their families.

Qualifications Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse or eligible for temporary registration Successful completion of Step-Down Unit Course Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification Experience and ability in ECG monitoring Previous related experience in acute medicine and/or geriatrics Knowledge of the current nursing assessment and management of adult and geriatric medicine patients, including rehabilitative approaches to patient care Knowledge of the nursing care plan and evidence of ability to utilize problem-solving and critical-thinking techniques effectively in an acute medical setting Demonstrated proficiency in working with patients, families, peers and multidisciplinary healthcare teams in an effective, professional, caring manner Demonstrated excellent problem-solving and communication skills, both written and verbal Demonstrated leadership ability and organizational skills, ongoing professional developmentAs a condition of employment, you are required to submit proof of full COVID-19 vaccination to Employee Health Services.
