The Opportunity:


The Advanced Practice Leader, Education for Internationally Educated Nurses (APL) is an expert and person-centered adult educator who demonstrates leadership in developing and supporting education, personal and professional growth, and mentorship for internationally educated nurses (IEN).

APL responsibilities require demonstrated excellence in leadership; critical and strategic thinking; prioritization, problem-solving, and decision-making; collaboration; interpersonal communication and relationship development skills; coaching; and presentation and facilitation skills.

An understanding of professional clinical practice and the health care system is integral to designing learning that is relevant to the organization and employees.

Utilizing a collaborative practice model, the APL provides a leadership role to develop and maintain programs and learning through consultation and collaboration with managers, directors, external partners, and numerous content experts to help identify learning needs and educational priorities.

The APL promotes evidence-informed practice through knowledge mobilization to ensure effective practices, consistent with the IWK Health Strategic Plan's key directives.


Hours of Work:

7.5 hour days, flexible start times

Your Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or equivalent, i.e. nursing diploma) required.
  • Master's degree in health or educationrelated field required. Masters in progress will be considered.
  • Active license in Nova Scotia to practice in healthrelated discipline or education required.
  • Experience with change initiatives, building commitment to change, and leading highperformance teams.
  • Experience in conducting research is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability in teaching and facilitation at the individual, small group, and large group levels.
  • Demonstrated ability in team building and working collaboratively with interprofessional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage relevant stakeholders (interpersonal and communication skills, conflict resolution).
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and a strong understanding of how the social determinants of health impact on mental/physical health.
  • Demonstrated organizational, time management, and problemsolving skills.
  • Excellent critical thinking, communication (verbal & written), and interpersonal skills.
  • Competencies in other languages are considered an asset.
