Your Opportunity:


Working within the laboratory team at the Grey Nuns Hospital, the Laboratory Assistant I is responsible for performing all aspects of the pre-analytical path of workflow including phlebotomy, collections by heel or finger stick, data entry, specimen processing, specimen distribution and preparation for transport.

This FTE position involves working half-shifts to support our morning workflow.

Days of work are primarily Monday through Friday with the potential of expansion into evenings, nights, and weekends in the future.

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner.

You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required; communication with other healthcare professionals is critical in this position. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to relate information or directions to others in an accurate, and concise manner. Recent phlebotomy experience, for both adults and neonates. Phlebotomy experience in an acute care environment. Current WHMIS and TDG training. Experience with the EPIC LIS.
