Position Summary and Scope of Service:

  • The Early Childhood Educator II/III (ECE II/III) is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating developmental programs for infants to preschool age children at River Road Children's Centre (RRCC).
  • A primary responsibility of the ECE II/III is to plan and implement activities, Emergent Curriculum and Thematic Curriculum for the children by providing the supports and opportunities to maximize the child's development and learning while optimizing the child's dignity, selfdetermination and personal independence.
  • The ECE II/III is responsible for the overall care and wellbeing of the children according to the Manitoba Child Day Care Standards Act and the Mission and Philosophy of St.
Amant and River Road Child Care.

The position involves both direct interactions with the children and the provision of guidance and resources for Childcare Assistants as they support the children in following through with their programs.


  • The ECE II/III is also responsible for communicating information to families and for assisting staff to carry out projects which have been approved by the St.
Amant.

Qualifications:

Educational:

  • Community College diploma (2 year) or Undergraduate Degree which meets the requirements for classification as an Early Childhood Educator II/III with the Manitoba Child Day Care Office
  • Valid Emergency First Aid Certificate and CPR certificate as prescribed by the Manitoba Child Day Care Standards Act
  • Holds a valid Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Check

Personal:

  • Function effectively as a team member
  • Contribute to effective employee relationships within a unionized environment
  • Physical ability to use low chairs and to lift, transfer, feed and toilet children
  • Physically able to wash and disinfect toys and move small furniture and child care equipment

Duties and Responsibilities:

Consistent with the Mission and Philosophy of St.

Amant and River Road Child Care, the ECE II/III is responsible for providing child care and developing and implementing inclusive programs for all children atypical in development, as well as typically developing children, by designing programs that meet the children's developmental needs and ensures their overall well being.


  • Adheres to and promotes compliance with the policies of the Centre and the requirements of the Manitoba Child Day Care Standards Act
  • Supports and encourages people to have new relationships, and supports people to explore engagement in community activities, and may be matched with a person supported to assist them in exploring these relationships and activities (This is known as an "exploring pair")
  • Designs and implements daily programs that will stimulate the development of the children's cognitive, physical, social and emotional growth
  • Practices appropriate behaviour management and guidance techniques according to River Road Child Care policies
  • Physically involves self throughout the day in children's activities through guidance, demonstration and encouragement as well as asking questions and seeking clarification
  • Daily informs parents about their children's experiences at the centre
  • The ECE II/III assists in the professional growth of colleagues through the sharing of ideas, information and talents
  • Understands and abide by the Manitoba Child Day Care Regulations and licensing requirements
  • Actively pursues knowledge and development in early education and "Best Practices" through attending assigned workshops and seminars
  • Notifies coordinator or designate of any accidents, unusual incidents and suspicion of abuse involving children, parents or staff
  • Cooperates with other persons, professionals and organizations to promote programs that will enhance the quality of family life
