Compensation:
$19.00/hour, plus vacation pay and sick leave

Preferred start date:
June 12th, 2023

Position duration: 8 weeks, 34 hours per week

Eligibility:


Due to funding restriction, the successful applicant must be 30 years or younger on the date of hiring; hold Canadian citizenship, permanent resident or refugee status; and work in the federal electoral riding of Richmond Centre.

The applicant is also expected to adhere to Georgia Strait Alliance (GSA)'s Covid-19 Policy.

About the position:


Working closely with our Clean Marine BC Coordinator, you will be coached to carry out outreach activities on behalf of the organization in support of our Dock Walking Program.


Your main priority will be reaching out to boaters in the Richmond Centre riding at marinas, yacht clubs, boatyards, fuel dock, harbour authorities, and at boating related events to distribute our Clean Boater Kits, and conduct our Clean Boater Survey.

Clean Boater Kits will need to be assembled with specific content and quality control in time for distribution, and Clean Boater Surveys not completed by the boater digitally will need to be data entered.

You will also provide support to our volunteer Dock Walkers, helping to coordinate their activities, and ensuring they have the materials and support they need to dock walk in their communities.

Additionally, you will be using tracking tools (spreadsheets, online forms, etc.) to document your activities, and will be encouraged to suggest and implement additional engagement methods, or visit additional locations that may help increase the reach or impact of our work.


This position will require flexibility in your schedule to work some weekends and evenings in order to attend boating events.


You will do great in this position if you are interested in best practices for boaters, biodiversity and ecosystems protection, community engagement, inclusivity and diversity, and are able to take initiative, particularly in starting and maintaining conversation with folks.

Having a keen sense of working as a team, and attention to detail are also important. As long as you have energy, a positive attitude, and eagerness to talk to people about important issues, you would be a great addition to this project

Experience and Qualifications
We understand that not all experience looks the same, and encourage applicants to share how their experiences relate to the qualities below:

  • Ability to follow scripts in an engaging way
  • Ability to engage and connect with folks of diverse backgrounds
  • Taking initiative and be willing to try new things (e.g. approach folks proactively, try different greetings to see which ones work best, etc.)
  • Ability to participate in, help plan and prepare for tabling at public events
  • Digital skills and attention to detail in order to effectively track activities and inventory in spreadsheets, communicate online, and assemble Clean Boater Kits in a standard and consistent format.
It would also be helpful if you have any of the following skills, qualifications or equivalent experiences, though they are by no means required:

  • Boating experience and/ or training
  • A Pleasure Craft Operators Certificate

Location:
The position requires a combination of work done at home/remote, from our Vancovuer office, and in the field.
